Problem Description
New user creation, whether through the CTC, CTM or TL1 interface, will fail on an ONS 15454 or ONS 15327 Network Element with a TCC+ or XTC that has been up for a specific period of time, as outlined below. On the ONS 15454, this can lead to a TCC+ card reset. While the ONS 15327 XTC does not reset, the issue manifests itself in other ways as described in the following paragraphs.
* The specific up time periods are 51 Days for the ONS 15454, and 6 days for the ONS 15327, respectively.
Background
New user creation fails on a Network Element with an active TCC+ or XTC card with an up-time as previously specified. The up-time for a TCC+ or XTC card is the amount of elapsed time since the card was last (re)booted.
Note: The date and time of the last boot of the active TCC+ or XTC can be determined from the "Booted" parameter in the CTC Node View Vital Statistics Pane.
The up-time can be determined by subtracting the date and time of the last boot from the current date and time. On the ONS 15454, the specific period is 51 days, whereas on the ONS 15327 it is 6 days.
On the ONS 15454, the result of an attempted user creation is a TCC+ reset. This can occur in all 3.4.x releases. It may also be possible under Release 3.3, although this has not been reproduced.
On the ONS 15327, with Release 3.3 or 3.40, 3.41, and 3.42, the XTC does not reset. The visible result is that the newly created user does not appear in CTC or TL1. There is also no error message displayed to indicate that user creation has failed. Again this is on the ONS 15327 only.
Release 4.0 and later are not affected by this issue on any platform.
Problem Symptoms
On the ONS 15454, the TCC+ resets after a new user is created if the ONS 15454 NE has been up for over 51 days.
On the ONS 15327, after 6 days of up-time, new user creation appears to succeed, but the new user does not appear in the user list.
Workaround/Solution
Reset the active and standby TCC+/XTC on the ONS 15327 or ONS 15454.
Perform the following steps during a maintenance window.
To reset the TCC+/XTC cards:
Step 1: Soft reset the standby TCC+ or XTC.
Step 2: Wait until the TCC+/XTC completes the process of booting and synchronizing the database with the active TCC+/XTC. During this process the "Fail" LED flashes. Upon completion of the process the "Active/Standby" LED shows solid amber, indicating standby mode.
Step 3: Wait several seconds, then soft reset the active TCC+/XTC.
Step 4: Wait until the TCC+/XTC completes the boot process. The "Active/standby" LED will show amber.
Step 5: Create the new user.
As an alternative to the above, you can upgrade to Release 4.x.
