All bundles which can be installed on Solaris 2.8. LMS and RWAN 4th and 5th edition Note:?Technically, all Cisco products could be affected, CNR, CWM, and others. |
Problem Description
A bug in Solaris 2.8 can cause TCP connection problems. This is documented in SUN Alert ID 48601, entitled "Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 Network Interface may Stop Responding to TCP Traffic."
When the server no longer responds to TCP traffic, CiscoWorks 2000 may stop working properly.
Background
Detailed information can be found on Sun's website
. Registration is required to access this content.
Problem Symptoms
Typical problems seen in CiscoWorks 2000 are the following:
-
Inability to log into CiscoWorks 2000 and a "?" appearing in the cookies field
-
ANI discovery prematurely stops
-
CiscoWorks 2000 crashes some time after rebooting
Various other issues may also be seen.
Workaround/Solution
Once this issue has occurred, connectivity can be recovered by bringing down and back up the affected interface while logged in as root.
# ifconfig qfe1 down # ifconfig qfe1 up
A partial workaround would be to reduce the ndd(1m) "ip_ire_arp_interval" parameter to one minute using the following command as root:
# ndd -set /dev/ip ip_ire_arp_interval 60000
Setting the ndd "ip_ire_arp_interval" parameter only reduces the chances of this issue to occur. This may also have a small negative impact on network performance.
Note:?Always restart CW2000 after chaning interface parameters.
The solution is to install one of the following patches.
-
Solaris 8 with patch 108528-16 and patch 114146-01 (for use with patch 108528-16 only)
-
Solaris 8 with patch 108528-17 and patch 113652-01 (for use with patch 108528-17 only)
