THIS FIELD NOTICE HAS BEEN EXPIRED AND IS NO LONGER MAINTAINED OR UPDATED BY CISCO.

All Cisco AS5350/AS5400 carrier cards and dial feature cards (DFCs) DFC-NP108, DFC-8PRI, DFC-CT3, DRC-2PRI, and DFC-NP60 that shipped from Cisco, either with systems or as spares, prior to August 22, 2001, were shipped with an incorrect common language equipment identifier (CLEI) code label. A CLEI generates a set of codes known as: CLEI, CPR, and equipment catalog item (ECI). These codes provide a method which allows telecommunications service providers identify, catalog, and track inventory for the various elements of the telecommunications network.
The carrier cards and DFCs have been shipping with labels that have the CLEI code present in both the human readable and the bar coded portions. The ECI does not appear on the CLEI code label.
The CLEI code labels are attached to the carrier card and each DFC. The products listed above may have one or more incorrect CLEI code labels. For example, if a customer ordered an AS5350 with an AS535-8T1-216NP, they would need a total of 4 CLEI code labels to be applied to the following components: the AS5350 carrier card, the AS535-DFC-8CT1, and each of the two AS535-DFC-108NPs.
The incorrect CLEI code labels have been shipping from Cisco since the products were introduced. Products shipped after August 22, 2001 have the correct CLEI code label.
There are no hardware problems with these cards. This is only a CLEI code label issue.
The CLEI code specification requires that the CLEI code label contain a human readable portion listing the CLEI code, and a bar code listing the ECI.
ECI is an item level reference data record that describes the electrical and physical characteristics of an equipment unit. Each equipment catalog item record is computer assigned a digit code.
The ECI number is not listed on the CLEI code label, which does not adhere to the CLEI code specification.
Bar code scanners expect to read the ECI number from the bar code label. Some scanners may return an error. If a database search is conducted looking for the ECI number returned from the bar code scanner, there will be no match. A search for the CLEI code printed on the label in the CLEI Code Database will not produce an error.
A scannable bar code image has been attached to this field notice for customer use. A PDF file containing the names of the products that are affected, and a scannable bar code image matching each product name is located here. The bar code can be used to scan the product for inventory purposes.
Please remember that the product purchased may contain several CLEI code labels. See the Problem Description above for more details.
A label with the correct CLEI Code for the carrier cards and DFCs has been produced. If the customer needs to physically replace the CLEI code label on the equipment, Cisco will ship the required number upon request. The CLEI code must be updated on the carrier card, and each DFC within the carrier card.
The location of the labels to be replaced are also shown in the attached PDF file, found here.
The correct CLEI code labels have been shipping in Manufacturing since August 22, 2001.
How to Obtain replacement CLEI code labelsTo receive the corrected CLEI code labels, please use the following procedure:
1) Review the PDF file and identify which CLEI code labels need to be replaced.
2) Any questions or comments about CLEI code label replacements can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
