Problem Description

Due to end of life of certain components on the 7200 I/O controller boards, the new replacement components necessitated a relayout of the board. This, coupled with the physical differences of the new components, resulted in a cosmetic change to the I/O controller as shown in the following diagrams.

The above diagram is the old I/O controller non-FE (C7200-I/0 or UBR7200-I/O).

The above diagram is the new I/O controller non-FE (C7200-I/0 or UBR7200-I/O). Note the differences in the boot flash simm as well as the reversed positioning of the CPU reset button and LED on the front panel. Also note the labeling position changes on the front panel.

The above diagram is the old I/O FE controller (C7200-I/0-FE or UBR7200-I/O-FE).

The above diagram is the new I/O FE controller (C7200-I/0-FE or UBR7200-I/O-FE). Note the differences in the boot flash simm. Also note the repositioning of the LEDs and labeling around the RJ-45 connector on the front panel.

Although there is an appearance difference, there are no functional or mechanical fit differences. The changes are purely cosmetic.

Background

End of life of some components necessitated replacement with new components. Some of the new components, in turn, necessitated the relayout of the print circuit board (PCB). These changes resulted in the cosmetic appearance on the front panel.

There are no functional, form or mechnical fit changes. The changes to the front panel are purely cosmetic.

Problem Symptoms

There are no problem symptoms associated with this change. This field notice provides information related to the cosmetic differences observable between the old and new controllers.

Workaround/Solution

The old I/O controller with FE are completely interchangeable with new I/O controller with FE. The same is also true for the old and new non-FE I/O controllers.

A spare replacement can be either the old or new controller. There is no functional nor mechanical fit differences.

There are no field-replaceable unit (FRU) parts on the I/O controller itself. The I/O controller is the FRU part.
