Configure

In this example, the chassisAlarmOn trap from the HPOV-UNIX trapd.conf file is added.

  1. Look in the HPOV-UNIX trapd.conf file to find the sysobjectid that would generate the trap.

In this case, it is .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5. Look in the enterprises section of the HPOV-UNIX trapd.conf where this is described as a "cisco-stack" device.

  2. On the HPOV for Windows main window, select Monitor, then select Customize Traps.

  3. Go to the middle area of the window and click Add Device Class.

If you see the device already listed on the HPOV Windows window, skip to step 5. If you do not see the device listed, continue with the next step.

  4. In HPOV for Windows, add the device to the DEVICES file in the OVFILES directory by opening a MS-DOS window and editing C:\OV\OVFILES\DEVICES (the default install directory). Then, add a line for the device (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5) in the format used in the file.

On the Customize trap window, the device (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5) should now appear in the bottom area when you click Add Device Class.

  5. In HPOV for Windows, highlight the device (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5) in the Add Device Class section, and click OK.

The device should now appear in the left section of the window under Device Class Name.

  6. Highlight the device, then click Add Trap.

  7. Fill in the information for the trap (chassisAlarmOn) using the HPOV-UNIX trapd.conf file information as a guide.

In this case, the Specific trap number is "5" (which is derived from the fourth field in the HPOV-UNIX trapd.conf file).

  8. Click OK, then complete the Alarm Actions section of the window: Fill in Update Map Status, Sound Bell, Log, Severity, and so on according to your preferences. (Appendix B of the HPOV for Windows Programmer's Manual explains these fields).

The Description for this example is "chassisAlarmOn" and the Extended Description is "A chassisAlarmOn trap signifies that the agent entity...."

  9. Click OK.

The trap should now appear under that enterprise.
