The Cisco® Global Cloud Index is an ongoing effort to forecast the growth of global data center and cloud-based IP traffic. The study also includes a "Cloud Readiness" analysis that investigates the ability of each global region (Asia Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, Middle East and Africa, North America and Western Europe) to support a sample set of low-end to high-end business and consumer cloud applications. In addition to broadband penetration, each region's cloud readiness is assessed in relationship to the sample services based on download and upload fixed and mobile network speeds as well as associated network latencies (segmented by business and consumer connections). This supplement provides additional country-level details that represent the basis for each region's network performance averages (speeds and latencies). Country-Level Details of Regional Cloud Readiness
The Cloud Readiness portion of the Cisco Global Cloud Index includes over 45 million records from Ookla.1 Fixed and mobile network speed tests were analyzed from nearly 150 countries around the world. The regional averages are based on the results of these speed tests. Individual countries may have slightly or significantly higher or lower averages compared to their regional averages for download speed, upload speed, and network latency. In some cases, individual countries did not have enough test results (specifically, less than 1,000 results for fixed connections or less than 500 results for mobile connections) to warrant inclusion in a particular network metric category (for example, fixed or mobile download or upload speed). Hence some countries are included in some categories but excluded from others. For normalization and to prevent skewing of the data, we have applied the 95th percentile methodology to our study (the top 5 percent and bottom 5 percent of results in fixed and mobile performance categories by country are excluded).
Cloud Readiness Service Categories
Sample business and consumer cloud service categories and their corresponding network requirements were established for the purposes of this study (Figure 1). Regional network performance statistics were ranked by their ability to support these three cloud service categories (based on the results of all countries included within a particular region). This supplement provides details and rankings for all of the countries that are included each region.

It is important to note that all of the network requirements must be met to achieve a classification within one of the three cloud application categories. For example, a country may meet the upload and download speed requirements for the advanced cloud applications category, while having a network latency result that does not meet the specified standard. In that case, the country's performance metrics are deemed sufficient for intermediate cloud applications. Download and upload speeds are reported in kilobits per second (kbps) and latencies are reported in milliseconds (ms). Country rankings for each network characteristic are in comparison to all other countries within the region.
The following sections list regional index results. Within each region, countries are categorized as offering advanced, intermediate, and basic cloud services support. Within each category, countries are listed in alphabetical order.

Conclusion
Based on the regional average download and upload speeds and latencies for business and consumer connections, all regions can support some level of cloud services. However, no region's average network characteristics are currently able to support high-end, advanced cloud applications.
From an individual country perspective, some countries have average network performance characteristics that are significantly higher than that of their region. Although only a relatively small number of countries are currently able to support advanced cloud services, these countries will promote significantly greater cloud traffic growth rates due to the high-bandwidth services than can be offered over their networks (for example, high-density [HD] video streaming).
In general, fixed networks offer better upload and download speeds and latencies than mobile networks. Given the growing global adoption of advanced mobile technologies, such as third- and fourth-generation (3G and 4G) Long-Term-Evolution (LTE) and the worldwide demand for wireless support of next-generation devices such as tablets, e-readers, and smartphones, we expect the performance gap between fixed and mobile networks to begin to close in the near future.
The study also indicated that business connections tend to have significantly greater capacity than consumer connections (fixed and mobile). From a business cloud services perspective, many networks are currently capable of supporting intermediate business applications (such as enterprise resource planning, customer resource management, and basic video conferencing) and some are currently capable of supporting advanced business applications (such as HD video and audio conferencing). With the necessary infrastructure in place, businesses and enterprises of all sizes can effectively implement these productivity-enhancing applications and communications services.
While consumer connections are not as strong as business connections, they are generally able to support the most popular basic consumer cloud services, such as email, instant messaging, web browsing, social networking, and basic video and music streaming.
