This document provides steps to add an IP phone to Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.x and later.
Ensure that you meet these requirements before you attempt this configuration:
Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CallManager) 7.x or later administration
IP Telephony hardware
The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:
Cisco Unified Communications Manager 7.x or later
Cisco IP Phone 79XX series.
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Refer to the Cisco Technical Tips Conventions for more information on document conventions.
Complete these steps in order to add the IP phone to Cisco Unified Communications Manager:
Choose Device > Phone from the Cisco Unified Communications Manager Administration page.
The Find and List Phones window displays.
Click the Add New button.
From the Phone Type drop-down list, select the appropriate phone type or device, and click Next.
Note: After you choose a phone type, you cannot modify it.
If the Select the device protocol drop-down list box displays, choose the appropriate protocol of the device, and click Next.
The Phone Configuration window displays.
Enter the appropriate settings, such as MAC Address, Device Name, Device Pool etc.
You can enable auto-registration in order to automatically add a Cisco Unified IP Phone to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager database when you connect the phone to your IP telephony network.
Choose System > Cisco Unified CM / Cisco Unified CM Group.
Enable the Auto-registration feature on an individual server or on the whole Cisco Unified Communications Manager Group.
There is currently no verification procedure available for this configuration.
Use this section to troubleshoot your configuration.
When adding the phone, this error message appears:
Add failed. One of the required fields on the page has the same value as an entry that already exists in the database. Please check the corresponding Find List page to verify your entry does not exist.
Also, when trying to add the DN to the phone, this error appears:
Add failed. Cannot insert or update pattern. A Device Template exists with the same pattern and partition.
Perform this workaround:
Create a new Phone Template in the Bulk Administration Tool (BAT), then associate the previous Line Template. You can associate multiple Line Templates if you need to delete more than one template.
Go back to the Phone Template page and click Delete.
Confirm the delete. BAT will remove both the Phone Templates and all associated device templates.
