This document describes the procedure to configure the DNS server settings on a Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.x/6.x/7.x with the Command Line Interface (CLI).
From a web client workstation, such as the workstation that you use for Cisco Unified Operating System Administration, you can use SSH to connect securely to the Cisco Unified Operating System.
You can access the Cisco Unified Operating System CLI directly with the monitor and keyboard that you used for installation or by through a terminal server that is connected to the serial port. Use this method if a problem exists with the IP address.
Ensure that you meet the prerequisites to start a CLI session, as described in Cisco Unified Communications Operating System Administration Guide, Release 5.0, Command Line Interface.
The information in this document is based on the Cisco Unified Communications Manager 5.x/6.x/7.x.
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

In order to configure the DNS server settings on a Cisco CallManager 5.x/6.x/7.x server, login to the CLI and issue this command:
Where ip-address represents the IP address of the primary or secondary DNS server.
This warning message appears after you enter the command:
This will cause the system to temporarily lose network connectivity. Do you want to continue ? Enter "yes" to continue or any other key to abort.
Make sure that the Cisco Unified Communications Manager is restarted after this configuration.
You can use the delete dns <DNS server IP address > command in order to delete the DNS server ip address.
Note: This DNS configuration temporarily creates a Database Replication issue. Verify the DNS ip address configured properly if the database replication issue continues after this configuration.
Note: If you change the IP address for the primary DNS server, you must also restart the Cisco Tomcat service. Refer to the documentation on the utils service command for more information.
Note: This command is not allowed during upgrade.
Use this section to confirm that your configuration works properly.
Issue the show network eth0 [detail] command in order to verify the DNS configurations and options on Cisco Unified Communications Manager.
When you try to install Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.x/7.x , the Estimated time exceeded error message appears and the installation hangs.
Ensure the DNS server is running and the DNS server IP address is correct .
Do not enter the DNS entries if the problem persists. You can enter the DNS information once you finished the installation through the CLI.
