Error: When you ran Cisco unity permissions wizard, you chose one or more Exchange mailstores to which the Cisco Unity Installation account has not yet been granted the required Exchange permissions
When running Message Store Configuration Wizard in the "Choose the Partner Exchange Server" section, you receive this error:
When you ran Cisco unity permissions wizard, you chose one or more Exchange mailstores to which the Cisco Unity Installation account has not yet been granted the required Exchange permissions.
Solution
Perform these steps in order to resolve the error:
-
Delegate the Exchange rights to unityinstall and unitydirsvc
- Check the permissions of the Cisco Unity accounts
Delegate the Exchange rights to unityinstall and unitydirsvc: Run the Delegation Wizard
Perform these steps in order to achieve the above task:
-
Open the Exchange System Manager.
-
Right-click on the First Organization (Exchange) root and choose Delegate control as shown here:
-
In the Delegate control screen, click Browse.
-
Under Select Users, Computers or Groups, click Advanced, and then click Find now so that you can choose the appropriate user.
-
Choose the unityinstall account and assign it the Exchange Administrator role.
-
Click OK in order to finish the wizard.
-
Similarly, once you provide the information in steps 1 through 4, choose the unitydirsvc account and assign it the Exchange view only Administrator role.
-
Click OK in order to finish the wizard.
Run the Permissions Wizard
Log in with a domain admin account to Unity box and run the Permissions Wizard against these four Unity accounts.
The Permissions Wizard sets the permissions that Cisco Unity requires for these accounts:
-
UnityInstall - The account you will use to install Cisco Unity.
-
UnityDirSvc - The account that Cisco Unity directory services will log on as.
-
UnityMsgStoreSvc - The account that Cisco Unity message store services will log on as.
-
Unityadmin
Note: Cisco Unity needs to be able to change properties of Active Directory users. The Permissions Wizard grants the directory services account the right to change user accounts in the containers that you specify. Cisco Unity can only change user accounts in those containers if inheritance is enabled for the containers and for the users themselves.
Check the permissions of the Unity accounts
Check whether the Unity user accounts in the Active Directory have inherited permissions. In order to do so, perform these steps:
-
Go to Active Directory Users and Computers.
-
Choose View > Advanced Features in order to see the Security tab in the account properties.
-
Go to the Organizational Unit and double-click on the user account (Unity accounts) in order to bring up the Properties page.
-
Click the Security tab.
-
Make sure that the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object checkbox is checked.
-
Click the Properties tab of UnityInstall, UnityDirSvc, UnityMsgStoreSvc and Unityadmin users in the Active Directory. Then, click on the Security tab and make sure that the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object checkbox is checked for all the users.
Note: Once these steps are complete, let the server replicate the permissions.
Restart the services
Restart these services if you are not able to run MSCW:
-
AvDSAD
-
AvDSGlobalCatalog
Error: Cisco Unity did not install completely
You are unable to run MSCW and receive this error: Cannot Install Cisco Unity. This wizard cannot install Cisco Unity on your computer, because the following reasons
Solution
Refer to Cisco Bug ID CSCsv47328 (registered customers only) for information on how to fix this issue.
The following Information Store has come back online
CuMDBStoreMonitor repeatedly reports that mailstore has come online when store has never gone offline. This application log message appears in frequent time intervals:
M4CiscoUnity_AvWm29017The following Information Store has come back online: CN=Mailbox Store (SERVER)CN=First Storage Group CN=InformationStoreCN=INET-SERVER8CN=ServersCN=Main CN=Administrative GroupsCN=COLLEGECN=Microsoft ExchangeCN=ServicesCN=ConfigurationDC=ohio DC=edu Parent process: CuMDBStoreMonitor.exe
If you stop and start the CuMDBStoreMonitor service, the messages will stop. However, they start again after a reboot.
Solution
This issue is related to the timing of service startups. In order to fix it, change the Startup Type of AvMMProxySvr from Automatic to Manual. When AvMMProxySvr is set to Manual, it will be started later by AvCsGateway in the appropriate order and the timing of startup will be right in this case.
This issue is documented by Cisco Bug ID CSCsx59710 (registered customers only) .
Error: Faulting application Setup.exe
MSCW fails when upgrading to Cisco Unity 8.x. After entering the unityadmin credentials with the Message Store Configuration Wizard, this error message appears in the application log:

This issue is also documented by Cisco Bug ID CSCth77070 (registered customers only) .
Solution
Perform these steps, which will allow MSCW to succeed:
-
Download the 8.0(3) media from cisco.com.
-
Copy the CommServer\Localize\Resources\ENU\MessageStores folder to the local hard drive.
-
Re-run MSCW.
