End of Sale and End of Maintenance for StrataView Plus Release 8.4

The Network and Service Management Business Unit is announcing the end of sale (EOS) and end of maintenance (EOM) of StrataView Plus® release 8.4 Solaris and AIX versions with an effective date of June 30, 2000 for EOS and March 31, 2001 for EOM. Cisco customers will continue to receive Technical Assistance Center (TAC) support currently planned for a period of two years after the EOS announcement date.

As a minimum upgrade, Cisco WAN Manager (CWM), formerly StrataView Plus, Release 9.1 can be used to manage the following MSSBU releases:

Switch Software Releases: 8.2, 8.4, 8.5, 9.1

MGX 8220 Releases: 4.0, 4.1

The upgrade path from 8.4 to 9.1 includes:

Upgrade from HPOV 4.11 to 5.01

Upgrade from Informix 5.0 to 7.23

Replacement of Equipment Manager graphical user interface (GUI) with CiscoView

Features not supported in Release 9.1, but were in Release 8.4 include:

FRASM card

Audible alarm

With the Release 8.4 to 9.1 upgrade, there are no changes to:

Solaris version (2.5.1)

WingZ (2.5)

System requirements

Low-end Sparc20/Ultra 1/Ultra 10

Mid-range Ultra 2/Ultra 60

High-end Enterprise 4000/450.

For customers migrating the switch software network from Release 8.x to Release 9.1, the preferred upgrade for CWM 8.4 is Release 9.2.

As a preferred upgrade, CWM 9.2 can be used to manage the following MSSBU releases:

Switch Software Releases: 9.1, 9.2

MGX 8220 Releases: 4.0, 4.1, 5.x

Besides hardware platform support, new features in CWM 9.2 include:

Connection templates for rapid error-free provisioning

Security management for GUI-based access privileges

Enhanced network browser with more details displayed for inventory and troubleshooting

The upgrade path from Release 9.1 to 9.2 include:

Upgrade from Solaris 2.5.1 to 2.6

Upgrade from 2-4 GB hard disk to 6-9 GB hard disk requirements

With the Release 9.1 to 9.2 upgrade, there are no changes to:

HPOV (5.01)

Informix (7.2.3)

CiscoView (4.2)

WingZ (2.5)

System requirements

Low-end Sparc20/Ultra 1/Ultra 10

Mid-range Ultra 2/Ultra 60

High-end Enterprise 4000/450.

However, there is no direct upgrade path from CWM 8.4 to 9.2. Therefore, an upgrade from Release 8.4 to 9.1, and Release 9.1 to 9.2 is necessary to migrate database information.
