You want a graphical representation of the devices in your network, and you want a listing of end-user stations. You can use this information: This scenario focuses on obtaining this graphical view and list of end-user stations. Print a List of Layer 2 Devices 4. Print a List of End Stations Discover Your NetworkStep 1 Set up ANI discovery in the CiscoWorks2000 Server. From the CiscoWorks2000 desktop, select CiscoWorks2000 Server > Setup > ANI Server Admin. Step 2 Refer to the Getting Started with CiscoWorks2000 guide for a detailed explanation of all that is involved in setting up and starting the discovery process. Before proceeding with the remainder of the procedure, you need to wait until the discovery process is complete. If you attempt to launch Topology Services before discovery is complete, Topology Services will start, but an indicator light will warn that discovery is still in progress. Print a List of Layer 2 DevicesTo print a list of Layer 2 devices in your network, including their device names, IP addresses, and device types: Step 1 From the CiscoWorks2000 desktop, select Campus Manager > Topology Services. Step 2 Expand the Network Views folder by clicking the plus sign next to the folder. Step 3 Click Layer 2 View. Step 4 You can customize the table by rearranging the order of the columns and by clicking on the column heading to sort the entries by the data contained in the column. In this scenario, you retain the order of the columns, but sort by device name by clicking on the Device Name column heading. Step 5 From the Topology Services menu bar, select File > Print. (See Figure 5-1.) Figure 5-1 Printout of Layer 2 Device Summary Print the Layer 2 ViewTo print a graphical view of the Layer 2 devices: Step 1 From the Topology Services window, select Layer 2 View. Step 2 Click View > Display View. The Layer 2 view appears. If the layout is not readable, from the Topology Service menu bar, select View > Relayout > To Visible Size. Step 3 You can include device names on the view. However, you might not need to display the domain name suffix; in this case, you can exclude this information from the device name. To do this: a. Select Edit > Map Preferences.The window shown in Figure 5-2 appears b. Click Edit Defaults.... The window shown in Figure 5-3 appears. c. Enter the domain suffix that you want to exclude if it is not already present. For example, enter .domain_name.com. d. Click the check box for Trim Domain Suffix on Labels.
Step 4 From the Topology Services menu bar, select File > Print. (See Figure 5-4.) To print a list of end stations: Step 1 From the CiscoWorks2000 desktop, select Campus Manager > User Tracking. The User Tracking window appears containing a list of end stations if you have configured it to show all end stations when the application is started; otherwise, you can select Query > Show All or a customized query to show desired end-stations. In this case, you have User Tracking set to show all end stations when you start the application. Step 2 Click the column heading to sort the list according to the elements in the column. For example, click UserName to sort the list by user name. Step 3 Select File > Print. (See Figure 5-5.) Figure 5-5 Printout of End Stations Where You Should End UpVerificationYou now have printed graphical views of LAN edge devices and switches. You also have listings of LAN edge devices, switches, and end stations. Keep this information about your network. As you make changes to your network topology, you will want to regenerate this information to keep your information current.
