Managing Image Assignments


Use the Assignments tab to assign devices to images and to assign an image to devices. When a new file is available, you can download the file, add it to AUS, and assign the image to a device. (See the "Adding a Software Image" section for information on adding images.) This is beneficial, for example, when a new file release fixes a security problem that an older version of the file did not address.

Viewing the Device Assignment Summary

From the Assignments tab, click the Assign Images to a Device option to display the Device Assignment Summary table. The table shows information about the image assigned to each device.

Click on a column name to sort the table by column information. You can also filter the table (Table 5-1).

Element Description

Family list

Series to which a device belongs.

Select the family from the list to filter the table according to family.

Type list

Type of device in a family.

Select the type from the list to filter the table according to type.

Search field

Text field into which you enter the Device ID you want to search for within the table.

Go button

Begins a search for the information entered into the search field.

Device ID radio button

Assigns image files to a device.

Device ID column

Name the device uses when identifying itself to AUS. May be different from hostname.

Clicking on an entry in the Device ID column provides you with a table showing the Device and Mapping File information for that particular Device ID.

Family column

Series to which the device belongs.

Type column

Type of device in a family.

PDM column

Name of the PDM file.

PIX Image column

Name of the PIX Firewall software image.

PIX Config column

Name of the PIX Firewall configuration file.

Rows per page list

Specifies the number of rows per page you want displayed.

Assigning Images to a Device

From the Device Assignment Summary page, you can assign PIX Firewall software images and PDM images to a device.


Note   You cannot use AUS to change the assignment between configuration files and devices—use PIX MC to do so.See the "Setting Up Devices and Groups" section of Using Management Center for PIX Firewalls 1.0 for more information.


Step 1   Select Assignments>Assign Images to a Device. The Device Assignment Summary page appears.

Step 2   Click the radio button to select the device to which you want to assign images.

Step 3   Click Assign Images. The Assign Images to Device page appears. Perform tasks as described in Table 5-2.

Step 4   Click OK to assign the image to the device. To exit the page without making any changes, click Cancel.

Element Description

Device row

Name of the device to which you are assigning an image.

Family row

Series to which the device belongs.

Type row

Type of family to which the device belongs.

PIX Image list

PIX Firewall software image. Select the name of the PIX Firewall image you want to map to the device, or select none.

PDM list

PDM file. Select the name of the PDM file you want to map to the device, or select none.

Viewing the Image Assignment Summary

From the Assignments tab, click on the Assign an Image to Devices option to display the Image Assignments Summary table. The table shows images and the number of devices that are referencing an image.

Click on a column name to sort the table by column information. You can also filter and search the table (Table 5-3).

Element Description

Type list

Type of software image.

Select the software image type from the list to filter the table according to the software image type.

Search field

Text field into which you enter the Image Name you want to search for within the table.

Go button

Begins a search for the information entered into the search field.

Image Name radio button

Assigns an image to devices.

Image Name column

Name of the image.

Clicking on an entry in the Image Name column displays table showing information about the image and devices mapped to the image.

Type column

Type of image.

Version column

Version of the image.

No. of Devices column

Number of devices assigned to an image.

Rows per page list

Specifies the number of rows per page you want displayed.

Assigning an Image to Devices

From the Image Assignment Summary page, you can assign a PIX Firewall software image or a PDM image to devices.


Note   You cannot use AUS to change the assignment between configuration files and devices—use PIX MC to do so. See the "Setting Up Devices and Groups" section of Using Management Center for PIX Firewalls 1.0 for more information.


Step 1   Select Assignments>Assign an Image to Devices. The Image Assignment Summary page appears.

Step 2   Click the radio button next to the Image Name column to select the software image to which you want to assign devices.

Step 3   Click Assign Devices. The Assign Image to Devices page appears (Table 5-4).

Step 4   To to assign the devices to the software image, click OK. To exit the page without making any changes, click Cancel.

Element Description

Selects the device you want to assign to an image. You can select multiple devices.

Name the device uses when identifying itself to AUS. May be different from hostname.

You can select multiple devices to assign to an image.

Family column

Series to which the device belongs.

Platform Type column

Type of platform within a family.

Rows per page list

Specifies the number of rows per page you want displayed.
