Table of ContentsTroubleshooting IDS MCCiscoWorks2000 Desktop Does Not Start Troubleshooting IDS MCIf your CiscoWorks2000 desktop does not start, refer to CiscoWorks2000 Desktop Does Not Start for a troubleshooting procedure. CiscoWorks2000 Desktop Does Not StartThis troubleshooting procedure may help you if you installed Cisco IDS Event Viewer after you installed the CiscoWorks2000 Server and then find that the CiscoWorks2000 desktop does not start.
The Cisco IDS Event Viewer is not associated with IDS MC and does not use the CiscoWorks2000 Server. If you want to install and use both the Cisco IDS Event Viewer and the IDS MC, you can do so with no interoperability concerns under normal conditions. However, you must install Cisco IDS Event Viewer first. Otherwise, a conflict arises between the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) of Cisco IDS Event Viewer and the JRE of the Java Plug-in used in the CiscoWorks2000 Server. The Cisco IDS Event Viewer uses (and installs) JRE 1.3.0, and the plug-in uses (and installs) JRE 1.3.1. If the CiscoWorks2000 desktop does not start, follow these steps: Step 1 Go to the host where the CiscoWorks2000 desktop does not start. This is the host that you are using as the web client. Step 2 Verify that you installed the Cisco IDS Event Viewer after you installed the CiscoWorks2000 Server. If so, or if you do not know, this procedure may help you. If not, this procedure will not help you. Step 3 In Windows 2000, select Start > Settings > Control Panel > System. Step 4 Click Advanced. Step 5 Click Environment Variables. Step 6 Remove the following directory from the Path variable: You have removed the conflict between the JRE of Cisco IDS Event Viewer and the JRE of the Java Plug-in used in the CiscoWorks2000 Server. The CiscoWorks2000 desktop will start if there are no other problems with your installation.
