This chapter contains:

Preparing to Install SLM

Before you install SLM, make sure your server and client meet the requirements described in the "Product Overview" chapter.

SLM must be installed on a system on which the following applications are already installed:

  • CD One, 4th Edition

  • One of the following:

    • CD Two, 3rd Edition

    • Resource Manager Essentials (Essentials) 3.3

All applications installed on your CiscoWorks2000 server are listed in the CiscoWorks2000 Server navigation tree. Select CiscoWorks2000 Server > About CiscoWorks2000 > Applications and Versions.

Installing SLM

On Windows 2000 and Windows NT

Note   This procedure assumes you are installing SLM for the first time. If you already have a previous version installed and want to upgrade to SLM 2.0, see the chapter "Upgrading to Service Level Manager 2.0."

The SLM installation takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. You can cancel the installation at any time by clicking Cancel at the bottom of any installation screen.

Note   Only the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM can be installed on the local SLM server. If you attempt to install SLM Collection Manager 2.0 on the local SLM server, successful operation will fail.

Before You Begin

1. Install CD One, 4th Edition.

Note   If you have a previous version of CD One installed on your server, you might require a patch. See the installation guide that shipped with CD One, 4th Edition for additional installation information.

2. Install CD Two, 3rd Edition.

Note   If Essentials 3.3 is installed on your server, you do not need to install CD Two, 3rd Edition.

3. Make sure you are using the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM for this procedure (included in part number CWSMS-2.0).

Procedure

Step 1   Log in as local administrator on the system on which you installed CD One, 4th Edition.

Step 2   Insert the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM into a CD-ROM drive. The Setup dialog box appears.

Note   From the Windows desktop, you can also select Start > Run, then enter <drive:\> win32 > setup.exe.

Step 3   Click Next. The Start Copying Files dialog box appears.

Step 4   Click Next. The following message appears:

Stopping cmdmgtd...

After additional messages are displayed, the Installing Service Management Solution dialog box appears, displaying installation status. You are prompted when the installation is complete.

Step 5   Click Finish.

SLM installation is complete.

Step 6   Verify that the SLM installation is successful. (See "Verifying the Installation.")

Step 7   Eject the CD-ROM.

Note   If the program stops due to errors, see the Troubleshoot ing appendix for more information.

Note   If any errors occurred, check the installation log file
C:\cw2000_inn.log, where "n" represents the number of times CiscoWorks2000 was installed.

On Solaris

Note   This procedure assumes you are installing SLM for the first time. If you already have a previous version installed and want to upgrade to SLM 2.0, see the chapter "Upgrading to Service Level Manager 2.0."

The SLM installation takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. You can press Ctrl-C at any time to end the installation; however, any changes to your system (for example, installation of new files or changes to system files) will not be undone.

Procedure

Step 1   As root, mount the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM using either of the following methods:

  • Mount the CD-ROM on the CiscoWorks2000 Server.

  • Mount the CD-ROM on a remote Solaris system, then access the CD-ROM from the CiscoWorks2000 Server.

Step 2   Run the installation program.

  • For a local installation, enter:

    # cd /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris

    # sh ./setup.sh

  • For a remote installation, enter:

    # cd remotedir/Solaris

    # sh ./setup.sh

where remotedir is the remote location where the SLM CD-ROM is mounted.

The program performs several checks on your machine, such as TCP/IP address resolution, TCP/IP port use, and disk space use. These checks can generate errors that cause the program to stop before any system changes are made.

You are prompted that SLM installation is complete.

Step 3   Verify that the SLM installation is successful. (See "Verifying the Installation.")

Step 4   Unmount the CD-ROM.

Note   If the installation program terminates due to errors, see the Troubleshoot ing appendix for more information."

Note   If any errors occurred, check the installation log file /var/tmp/ciscoinstall.log.

  • WebServer

Note   Access the Process Details and System Log dialog boxes to help you with any troubleshooting needs.

Changing the CiscoWorks2000 Server Password

You might want to change the CiscoWorks2000 Server login password after installation (and periodically after that) to ensure system security. To do this, refer to the following web site:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/RME/51.html#Q7

Note   You must be logged in to Cisco.com to use the hyperlinks, or an error message might result.

Preparing to Uninstall SLM

If SLCs and SLAs are set up for monitoring, before you uninstall SLM, you should delete all SLCs using the browser interface. If you remove SLM without first deleting SLC probes, you must remove the SA Agent probes from each router using the CLI.

Note   Failure to remove SLC probe types before uninstalling SLM causes the SA Agent probes to remain configured on the Cisco devices.

To do this, you telnet to the router and stop all operations by entering rtr reset at the command prompt. This command requires that you are in configuration mode. See the section "Useful Cisco IOS Software Commands" in Using Service Level Manager for CLI commands used to remove SA Agent probes.

Note   If you want to offload SLM data to a new target server, see the chapter "Migrating SLM Files" before uninstalling SLM.

Removing SLCs

Procedure

Step 1   From the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop, select Service Level Management > Administration > Service Level Manager > Define Service Contracts.

Step 2   Select the SLC(s) to delete. (See Figure 2-4.)

Note   You can delete multiple SLCs at a time.

Figure 2-4: Cisco Service Level Manager Window

Step 3   From the drop-down menu, select Edit > Delete SLC. You can also use the shortcut button on the toolbar.

A message prompts you to verify the request.

Step 4   Click Yes to continue.

The SLC is removed from the SLM navigation tree, as are all SLAs contained within the SLC.

Step 5   Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 for all remaining SLCs.

Uninstalling SLM

The uninstallation program removes SLM files and settings. Uninstallation gives you the option to remove CD One, CD Two, or SLM. The uninstallation takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Caution   You must use the SLM uninstallation program to remove the product. If you try to remove SLM or its components manually, you can damage your system.
