Preparing to Install SLMBefore you install SLM, make sure your server and client meet the requirements described in the "Product Overview" chapter. SLM must be installed on a system on which the following applications are already installed:
All applications installed on your CiscoWorks2000 server are listed in the CiscoWorks2000 Server navigation tree. Select CiscoWorks2000 Server > About CiscoWorks2000 > Applications and Versions. Installing SLMOn Windows 2000 and Windows NT
The SLM installation takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. You can cancel the installation at any time by clicking Cancel at the bottom of any installation screen.
Before You Begin1. Install CD One, 4th Edition.
2. Install CD Two, 3rd Edition.
3. Make sure you are using the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM for this procedure (included in part number CWSMS-2.0). ProcedureStep 1 Log in as local administrator on the system on which you installed CD One, 4th Edition. Step 2 Insert the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM into a CD-ROM drive. The Setup dialog box appears.
Step 3 Click Next. The Start Copying Files dialog box appears. Step 4 Click Next. The following message appears: Stopping cmdmgtd... After additional messages are displayed, the Installing Service Management Solution dialog box appears, displaying installation status. You are prompted when the installation is complete. Step 5 Click Finish. SLM installation is complete. Step 6 Verify that the SLM installation is successful. (See "Verifying the Installation.") Step 7 Eject the CD-ROM.
On Solaris
The SLM installation takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. You can press Ctrl-C at any time to end the installation; however, any changes to your system (for example, installation of new files or changes to system files) will not be undone.
Before You Begin1. Install CD One, 4th Edition.
2. Install CD Two, 3rd Edition.
3. Make sure you are using the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM for this procedure (included in part number CWSMS-2.0). ProcedureStep 1 As root, mount the Service Level Manager 2.0 CD-ROM using either of the following methods:
Step 2 Run the installation program.
# cd /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris # sh ./setup.sh
# cd remotedir/Solaris # sh ./setup.sh
The program performs several checks on your machine, such as TCP/IP address resolution, TCP/IP port use, and disk space use. These checks can generate errors that cause the program to stop before any system changes are made. You are prompted that SLM installation is complete. Step 3 Verify that the SLM installation is successful. (See "Verifying the Installation.") Step 4 Unmount the CD-ROM.
Verifying the InstallationThis simple process is the same for Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Solaris. To verify the installation, perform the following procedures:
Viewing the CiscoWorks2000 Server DesktopProcedureStep 1 Start your web browser. Step 2 Enter the target HTTP address for the CiscoWorks2000 Server. The default port number on the target device is 1741. Step 3 Log in to CiscoWorks2000 and verify the Service Level Management drawer appears on the CiscoWorks2000 desktop. (See Figure 2-1.)

Checking Local CM ConfigurationProcedureStep 1 From the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop, select Service Level Management > Administration > Collection Manager > Configure Collection Manager. The Configure Collection Manager window should open with "localhost" listed in the Collection Managers column. (See Figure 2-2.) Figure 2-2: Configure Collection Manager Window
Step 2 Close the window after viewing. Checking SLM Process StatusProcedureStep 1 From the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop, select Server Configuration > Administration > Process Management > Process Status. The Process Status window opens. (See Figure 2-3.) Figure 2-3: Process Status Window
Step 2 Scroll to the following line items and verify State shows "Program started" or "Running Normally."
Changing the CiscoWorks2000 Server PasswordYou might want to change the CiscoWorks2000 Server login password after installation (and periodically after that) to ensure system security. To do this, refer to the following web site: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/RME/51.html#Q7
Preparing to Uninstall SLMIf SLCs and SLAs are set up for monitoring, before you uninstall SLM, you should delete all SLCs using the browser interface. If you remove SLM without first deleting SLC probes, you must remove the SA Agent probes from each router using the CLI.
To do this, you telnet to the router and stop all operations by entering rtr reset at the command prompt. This command requires that you are in configuration mode. See the section "Useful Cisco IOS Software Commands" in Using Service Level Manager for CLI commands used to remove SA Agent probes.
Removing SLCsProcedureStep 1 From the CiscoWorks2000 Server desktop, select Service Level Management > Administration > Service Level Manager > Define Service Contracts. Step 2 Select the SLC(s) to delete. (See Figure 2-4.)
Figure 2-4: Cisco Service Level Manager Window
Step 3 From the drop-down menu, select Edit > Delete SLC. You can also use the shortcut button on the toolbar. A message prompts you to verify the request. Step 4 Click Yes to continue. The SLC is removed from the SLM navigation tree, as are all SLAs contained within the SLC. Step 5 Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 for all remaining SLCs. Uninstalling SLMThe uninstallation program removes SLM files and settings. Uninstallation gives you the option to remove CD One, CD Two, or SLM. The uninstallation takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
