This document describes how to resolve the error, "Error - Login Failed. The client cannot connect to the Authentication service."
This document covers information on a common problem encountered in Cisco Security Manager Version 4.3 (CSM 4.3). While this document focuses on CSM 4.3, it is possible that the same problem and solution applies to other versions as well.
Sometimes users are unable to log in to the CSM client. On login, this error appears in a popup window:
"Error - Login Failed. The client cannot connect to the Authentication service."
Complete these steps in order to attempt to reregister the Apache service on the CSM server. The client uses Apache to attempt to log in.
- In order to stop the services, choose Run > Services.msc.
This stops all Cisco Security Manager Services and changes them to "manual," except for the CSM Daemon Manager, which should be set to "Automatic."
- In order to open the command prompt for Windows, choose Start > Run. In the open field, type cmd. Click OK.
- Enter these commands:
pdreg -u Apache
pdreg -r Apache -e "c:\Progra~1\CSCOpx\MDC\Apache\bin\Apache.exe" -f "-d
c:\Progra~1\CSCOpx\MDC\Apache\bin -D SSL" -d Tomcat
- Restart only the Cisco Security Manager Daemon Service and wait for the other related services to start automatically.
