Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System Device Management
End of Sale Announcement
IntroductionThis product bulletin covers the issues associated with the end of sale of Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (Cisco Secure IDS), formerly known as NetRanger, Device Management as a separate option. Device Management will now be bundled with the base Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection System (Cisco Secure IDS) Sensor at no additional charge. The last order date for the non-Device Management Sensors is October 17, 1999 (see Table 1). Existing Cisco Secure IDS 2.2.X customers will be able to upgrade to Device Management at no charge. Upgrade instructions will be posted on CCO. Customers running versions of Cisco Secure IDS prior to 2.2.0 (e.g., 2.1.1) will have to upgrade to 2.2 either via a maintenance contract or by purchasing the upgrade (product number NRS-BASIC-U) in order to get Device Management.

RationaleDevice Management is being bundled for free with the base product in order to provide customers enhanced security capabilities and to promote interoperability with other Cisco products. In addition, this change will eliminate the confusion and complexity of the ordering and manufacturing of the Cisco Secure IDS Sensors.
