End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the
Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator Upgrade Kits

Cisco Systems® announces the end of life of the upgrade kits for the Cisco® VPN 3000 Series Concentrator. The last day to order the upgrade kits for Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator is April 01, 2004. Customers that hold support contracts for their VPN 3000 Series concentrators will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) without interruption. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator upgrade kits. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Cisco is changing the way upgrades within the Cisco VPN 3000 Series are delivered. Customers are encouraged to upgrade using the new Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator upgrade kits, which provide enhanced memory, software, and hardware, in addition to a more streamlined ordering process. Table 3 provides relevant information for the new Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator upgrade kits.

*The last-date-of-support milestone does not apply to upgrade kits. Service and support contracts are not available with upgrade kits. Concentrators with valid service contracts will continue to receive support.

Product Migration Options

The recommended replacements for the Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator upgrade kits are four new Cisco VPN 3000 Series Concentrator upgrade kits that contain the proper number of new hardware encryption modules providing AES in hardware (SEP-E); Cisco VPN 3000 Concentrator Software v4.1; the latest release of the Cisco VPN Client; 512 MB of new memory; one power supply; and new Boot Code for the Cisco VPN 3060 and VPN 3080 concentrators (Table 3).

Customers who wish to upgrade their Cisco VPN 3000 Series concentrators after April 01, 2004 must do so using the four new upgrade kits described in Table 3. Several restrictions apply to the upgrade program as of April 01, 2004:

  • Only SEP-Es are available in upgrade kits. Upgrade kits with the SEP can no longer be purchased.
  • Cisco VPN 3005 is no longer upgradeable.
  • Upgrades to the Cisco VPN 3080 are no longer allowed.
