If the upper of the two port LEDs is off, that Token Ring port is disabled. To verify that the port is administratively disabled, use the show port characteristics [x] command, where "x" is the number of the port. If the first line of the output, "Interface Admin. Status," is "disabled," the port is administratively disabled.
The Catalyst 1600's Token Ring switch ports should have either RJ-45 or DB-9 cables.
Use the enable port interface [#] command, where "#" is the number of the port.
Enter the show bridge characteristics command. The IP Address is the current IP address for the domain.
Use the command set bridge ip address [IP address]
- To check the subnet mask on the switch, start the Catalyst 1600 Manager. Click the Information button to display the Information dialog box. The Subnet mask field contains the current IP subnet mask.
- Use the set bridge subnet [subnet mask] command to set the subnet mask.
Enter the show bridge characteristics command. If a default route has been set on the switch, the output contains a line that with the following: IP default: [default gateway address].
Use the set bridge gateway [gateway] command.
Use the VLAN Membership page in order to assign ports to VLANs and check the list of VLANs on the switch. Both ports you are trying to connect across must be assigned to the same VLAN.
The Catalyst 1600 does not support trunking.
