End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the
Cisco MGX-VISM Hardware, Codec Licenses, and Cisco VISM Software
Cisco Systems® announces the end of life of the Cisco® Voice Internetworking Service Module (VISM) for the Cisco MGX 8000 Series Voice Gateways and Multiservice Switches. The last day to order the Cisco VISM for the Cisco MGX 8000 Series Voice Gateways and Multiservice Switches is September 1, 2004. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until September 1, 2008 (for hardware) and September 1, 2007 (for software and codec licenses). Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco MGX-VISM Hardware, Codec Licenses, and VISM Software. Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement. The Cisco VISM is being replaced by the Cisco VISM-PR.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco MGX-VISM-PR which provides higher density for G726/G729a compression codec (full 8T1/8E1) and is compatible with all existing modules of the Cisco MGX 8000 Series Voice Gateways and Multiservice Switches. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco MGX-VISM to the Cisco MGX VISM-PR.

Customers who need to make a final purchase for the Cisco VISM and/or upgrade their Cisco VISM with Cisco VISM-PR should work with their account manager to identify the product requirements and schedule and submit a request to Cisco to identify and coordinate with manufacturing demand and build plans.
