Cisco® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco BWX Broadband Wireless Access-SCDMA mode. The last day to order the affected product(s) and the associated software components is February 6, 2009. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the end-of-life bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product(s). Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement. For customers with active and paid service and support contracts, support will be available until the termination date of the contract, even if this date exceeds the Last Date of Support shown in Table 1.
Cisco is announcing the end-of-sale and end-of-life of the Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (SCDMA) software and the hardware units that support SCDMA operation. This includes all SCDMA software release versions as well as the basestations, modems, and associated items. WiMAX software will continue to be available and new versions of the basestations and modems that support only WiMAX operation are shown in Table 2 as migration products.

The end-of-sale Cisco BWX 8305 and BWX 2305 Basestation hardware is equipped with an internal Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver that is used only when the basestation is operated in SCDMA mode. Since WiMAX operation requires more accurate frequency and timing references than SCDMA, Cisco has developed the BWX 8303 Basestation Timing System. The BWX 8303 operates with both the current BWX 8305 Basestation and the new WiMAX BWX 8305 and BWX 2305 versions now available. Operators can upgrade their existing SCDMA BWX 8305 Basestation and BWX 110 and BWX 120 modems to 802.16e mode via software.
