Note: This webpage describes nonvirtualized "appliance" support for IBM servers. For virtualization support, refer to http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized.
Cisco is introducing software applications from the Cisco® Unified Communications portfolio that install on specific configurations of customer-provided IBM xSeries x3650-M2 and x3250-M3 servers. Available applications include: Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Emergency Responder, Cisco Unified Application Environment, Cisco Unity® unified messaging, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco Unified Presence, Cisco Unified Mobility Advantage, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace® conferencing, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, Cisco Unified Contact Center Enterprise and Hosted, Cisco Unified Intelligent Contact Management Enterprise and Hosted, Cisco Unified Customer Voice Portal, Cisco Unified IP Interactive Voice Response (IP IVR), Cisco Unified Intelligence Center, Cisco Unified Web Interaction Manager, Cisco Unified E-Mail Interaction Manager, Cisco Unified Contact Center Management Portal, and Cisco Unified Expert Advisor.
Cisco also supports the use of HP USB-attached tape drives as local backup devices for these servers. Refer to the "HP Tape Drives" section later in this document for details and ordering instructions.
Note: IBM no longer supports battery replacement on IBM servers, whether the battery is part of an IBM server provided by the customer or a Cisco MCS 7800 server. Please visit this link for more details on IBM's policy for "consumable" components with limited useful lives: http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/portal/docdisplay?brand=5000008&lndocid=MIGR-5072280.
Customer-provided servers must exactly match the vendor, make, model, specifications, and parts lists in the configurations listed in the following sections to be supported. Deviations are not supported, and may result in an incomplete or failed install, or postinstallation problems. Customer-provided servers must also be on the certified hardware compatibility list for the intended software product and version.
Where equivalent Cisco 7800 Media Convergence Server model numbers are given, they should be interpreted as the configurations used by Cisco Unified Communications Manager. The same MCS model used for other applications (where the MCS model has a different suffix) may use different components and specifications. Contact your local Cisco account team for more details.
Cisco no longer stocks memory and disk drive components for end-of-sale Cisco MCS 7800 models. Please consult the parts lists in the "Older IBM Servers" section later in this document to get the IBM part numbers of these components, and procure them direct from IBM. Remember to remove these parts if the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) ever performs a return materials authorization (RMA) on the Cisco MCS 7800. If IBM no longer has these parts available, then consider migrating to either a newer appliance or a virtualized solution as described at http://www.cisco.com/go/uc-virtualized.
For purchasing questions not addressed in the following sections, please contact an IBM representative for your country at: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide.
Table 1 lists supported platforms for the Cisco Unified Communications products listed previously. Note that the Cisco MCS 7816 and MCS 7828 Media Convergence Servers do not have a software-only supported option.
For additional details about platform support for the following Cisco Unified Communications products, please consult the following references:
Please contact IBM for hardware options for rack-mount kits, power supplies, and power cords (also note that Cisco 7800 series Media Convergence Servers from Cisco no longer ship with cable management arms).Tables 2 and 3 list the IBM ordering instructions for the different hardware configurations. Note that although these special "for Cisco" part numbers are available worldwide, they are not generally announced so will not show up in any business partner catalogs or other locations on IBM's general website. They are usually available through the IBM online configurator tool at https://www-01.ibm.com/products/hardware/configurator/americas/bhui/launchNI.wss.

HP Tape Drives
Cisco supports certain models of USB-attached DAT tape drives for software backups to a local tape instead of to a network location. These tapes drives are supported with select models of Cisco MCS 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers. These tape drives were formerly sold as Cisco part numbers DAT-USB-RM-72 and DAT-USB-EXT-72.
Ordering instructions from HP: Please order from HP the part numbers of one of the supported models in Table 47. These part numbers are orderable through HP or HP authorized resellers in all regions. For media for these DAT drives, please consult: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11843_div/11843_div.HTML.
