Cisco Unified Application Environment 2.4: New Features
The following sections describe new features in this release.
New Developer Version
The Cisco Unified Application Environment product line is now available as a free download to all developers interested in creating applications for the Cisco Unified Communications System, which includes voice, video, and IP communications products. Free downloads include the Cisco Unified Application Designer, Cisco Unified Application Server, Cisco Unified Media Engine, developer and administrator documentation, and sample applications. Cisco also offers a developer version of Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0 for development and test use at a cost of only US$550. These Cisco Unified Application Environment and Cisco Unified Communications Manager products can be installed on Windows servers already owned by the developer, so a full development and test bed environment can be set up for only about US$550. In addition, free developer support is available through forums and chat services staffed by engineers skilled in the use of the Cisco Unified Application Environment.
Attractive to the Commercial Market
The Cisco Unified Application Environment is now compatible with a much broader range of media convergence servers, including the Cisco 7816, 7825, 7835, and 7845 Media Convergence Servers. Cisco now also offers full-featured versions of the Cisco Unified Application Server and Cisco Unified Media Engine, with list prices starting at US$1995 and US$995, respectively, and support has been added for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express with an H.323-based plug-in integration. In addition to packaging and pricing changes that facilitate a price point of the product line that is suitable for the commercial market, a rapidly growing portfolio of packaged applications are being built for the Cisco Unified Application Environment that can deliver immediate value to commercial customers who may have neither the desire nor the resources to build their own custom applications.
Presence
The Cisco Unified Application Environment adds support for Cisco Unified Presence, with a plug-in that facilitates the easy integration of presence into applications.
Application Portfolio
The primary objective of the Cisco Unified Application Environment is to enable the Cisco developer ecosystem to deliver a very rich portfolio of packaged applications that run on the Cisco Unified Communications platform, allowing Cisco customers to take full advantage of their investment in unified communications by licensing and deploying applications that can transform business processes, enhance communications, and deliver sustainable competitive advantage. This initiative is now under way, and more applications are available each month.
