Cisco announces release 1.2 of the Cisco® Smart Business Communications System, with support for the new entry-level Cisco Unified IP Phones 500 Series, a 24-user option and software licensing upgrades on the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series for Small Business, and interoperability with additional third-party applications. The Cisco Smart Business Communications System is an affordable, complete system that extends voice, data, video, and wireless networking to small and medium-sized offices, providing highly secure anytime, anywhere access to information. As the solution continues to expand, release 1.2 offers customers more options for user counts and phones choices and increased flexibility in pricing, with shipping beginning in April 2008.

The first release (1.0) of the Cisco Smart Business Communications System was announced in April 2007, and release 1.1 became available in August 2007. These two releases included:

• Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series for Small Business

• Cisco® Catalyst Express 520 Series Switch

• Cisco Mobility Express with the Cisco 521 Wireless Express Access Point and the Cisco 526 Wireless Express Mobility Controller

• Cisco Unified IP Phones

• Business productivity applications from Cisco and third parties

• System configuration and monitoring capabilities, including Cisco Configuration Assistant, Cisco Monitor Manager, and Cisco Monitor Director

Release 1.2 of the Cisco Smart Business Communications System makes available the following new platforms, features, and software updates and applications. Hardware availability timeframes through Cisco channels are based on when Cisco begins shipping the product and the time it takes to stock products in various regions worldwide.

Hardware

New Cisco Unified IP Phones 500 Series: Entry-level IP phones designed for use with the Cisco Smart Business Communications System. A one-line and a four-line model are available; both can be powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE). Shipping is targeted for April 2008.

Twenty-four-user models of the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series: Rack-mount form factor supporting 24 users with eight foreign exchange office (FXO) ports or four Basic Rate Interface (BRI) ports. Available today.

Software licensing upgrades for the Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series: Upgrades from 8 to 16 users, 24 to 32 users, 32 to 48 users or 24 to 48 users, depending on the model. The 8 to 16 and 32 to 48 user upgrades are available today. The 24 to 32 and 24 to 48 user upgrades will become available in June 2008.

Software Enhancements

Cisco Configuration Assistant 1.6: Supports the new Cisco Unified IP Phones 500 Series, as well as all the features added in Cisco Configuration Agent 1.5. These include enhancements for restoring settings to factory default, a setup wizard, automated attendant and inbound call handing, station feature for shared lines and overlay DNs, support for the Cisco 39xx SIP phones, and ad hoc conferencing. Additionally, Cisco Mobility Express offers wireless LAN enhancements through Cisco Configuration Assistant that include secure guest access configuration, VLAN synchronization with the other Cisco Smart Business Communications System platforms, simplified WLAN Service Set Identification (SSID) setup, and a tool for converting from standalone access point mode to controller-based mode. Available in April 2008.

The Cisco Monitoring Director 2.0: Release 2.0 provides additional support for small and medium-sized business (SMB) class devices, including servers, printers, and workstations; support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco® Unity, Cisco® WebEx reports, and monitoring templates using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) for third-party and Cisco devices. Target availability July 2008.

Third-Party Applications

The following third-party applications are targeted for interoperability testing with the Cisco Smart Business Communications System. Targeted test completion date is July 2008.

• Call recording with Cisco application partner Telrex

• Call accounting with Cisco application partner ISI
