Cisco Systems® announces a new Cisco IOS® Software release for the Cisco® uBR10012, uBR7246VXR, and uBR7100 Series universal broadband routers. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(13a)BC introduces several innovations for the broadband cable IP next-generation network. This product bulletin identifies the new software and hardware features added in this release.
New Software Feature Support
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(13a)BC allows cable operators to deploy next-generation multimedia services on their Cisco communications-grade cable modem termination systems (CMTSs) and take full advantage of CableLabs® PacketCable MultimediaTM (PCMM) and DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) specifications.
The PCMM feature set enables cable operators to transform their high-speed hybrid fiber coax (HFC) networks into next-generation, intelligent, dynamic quality of service (DQoS) communications networks. With a software upgrade on the Cisco uBR10012 or uBR7246VXR, PCMM capabilities enable the CMTS to fulfill dynamic service requests from multimedia applications.
Advanced mode DSG, based on the CableLabs OpenCableTM initiative, is now supported on the Cisco uBR10012 and uBR7246VXR. With DSG, cable operators can migrate their traditional proprietary video out-of-band technology to open, standards-based DOCSIS technology. Advanced mode capabilities supported include downstream channel descriptor, regionalization, fragmentation, quality of service, and enhanced security for multicast delivery of out-of-band messages dynamically to video set-top boxes.
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(13a) introduces admission control for the Cisco uBR10012 and uBR7246VXR. With this feature, cable operators can optimize system and network resource utilization in real time based on prioritized and aggregated demands from various multimedia applications that require DQoS, thereby enhancing the broadband subscriber experience.
In addition, Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(13a)BC includes Service Independent Intercept (SII) support for the Cisco uBR10012, uBR7246VXR, and uBR7100 Series. This feature set assists cable operators in meeting the needs of law enforcement for data, voice, and multimedia content.
New Hardware Feature Support
Cisco IOS Release 12.3(13a)BC introduces support for the Cisco uBR10012 Half-Height Gigabit Ethernet Line Card and Half-Height Line Card Carrier. The Cisco Half-Height Gigabit Ethernet Line Card doubles Gigabit Ethernet density in the Cisco uBR10012, offering an
IEEE 802.3z-compliant Ethernet interface that can run up to 1 Gbps in full-duplex mode. The card uses a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) gigabit interface converter (GBIC) module that supports a variety of Gigabit Ethernet interface types (SX, LX/LH, and ZX) which operators can change or upgrade at any time. The Cisco Half-Height Line Card Carrier holds up to two Cisco uBR10012 half-height line cards.
