This product bulletin describes Cisco IOS® Software packaging for Cisco® 7200 Series routers. It introduces eight new cross-platform feature sets in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(2)T. For releases prior to 12.4(2)T (such as 12.4M and 12.3T), there is no Cisco IOS Software packaging and, as before, classic feature sets can be used. (The classic feature sets will reach end-of-sale with the release of 12.4(2)T.)
Note: Cisco IOS Software packaging is an initiative that simplifies the image selection process by consolidating the number of packages and using consistent package names across platforms. This product bulletin discusses the packaging of Cisco IOS Software features into feature sets. It does not discuss individual new features. For information about new features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(2)T, refer to the Cisco IOS Software pages on Cisco.com.
OVERVIEW
With the introduction of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(2)T, the Cisco 7200 Series routers will migrate to eight new cross-platform feature sets. Customers planning to deploy new features in Release 12.4(2)T should understand and evaluate the new cross-platform feature sets. Starting with Release 12.4(2)T, the cross-platform feature sets will replace the classic feature sets (Table 1).

INTRODUCTION TO CISCO IOS SOFTWARE RELEASE CROSS-PLATFORM FEATURE SETS
The cross-platform feature sets make it easier to choose feature sets in a multiple-platform environment. They provide feature combinations based on customer feedback. In addition, the cross-platform feature sets simplify the image-selection process by providing similar functions across platform boundaries (Table 2).
The following Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(2)T feature sets will be available for the Cisco 7200 Series routers (Table 3).

Please note that the default image for the cross-platform and special-purpose feature sets has different capability than the default image for the classis features sets. For more information, please consult the cross-platform feature set introduction page or use the Compare Images function in the Cisco Feature Navigator tool.
Table 4 lists suggested migration paths from end-of-sale Cisco IOS Software classic feature sets to cross-platform feature sets. Please note that other active release trains continue to issue maintenance releases of the classic feature sets. The migration applies only to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.4(2)T and later. Detailed information about the new cross-platform feature sets is available on the cross-platform feature set introduction page.
Cisco SMARTnet® support and other support contracts are transferable to any software image suggested as a migration path.
Cisco Systems® provides several tools to perform detailed analysis of feature content. To find out which Cisco IOS Software release best supports your needs, use the Cisco Software Advisor, Cisco IOS Software Upgrade Planner, and Cisco Feature Navigator, which allow registered customers and partners to search by feature(s) or by release, and compares different releases and feature sets.
