Cisco 2600 Series Multiservice Platforms

Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the low density voice/fax network modules (NM-1V and NM-2V) and associated Voice Interface Cards (VICs) for Cisco® 1700 Series Modular Access Routers, 2600 Series Multiservice Access Routers, 2600XM Series Multiservice Access Routers, 3600 Series Multiservice Access Routers, and 3700 Series Multiservice Access Routers. Network modules are not supported on the Cisco 1700 Series Modular Access Router platforms. The last day to order these network modules and VICs is July 31, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until July 31, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the low density voice/fax network modules and associated VICs .Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement.

Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules (NM-HD-xx) and associated VICs. The Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules (NM-HD-1V, NM-HD-2V and NM-HD-2VE) support all the features of the current low density voice/fax network modules (NM-xV) while offering significant advantages such as higher port and channel densities and a new generation of digital signal processors (DSPs) with greater memory and processing power.

The recommended replacements for the Cisco low density voice/fax network modules (NM-1V and NM-2V) and associated VICs are the Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules (NM-HD-xx) and associated VICs. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the NM-xV family of modules to the NM-HD-xx family of modules.

The Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules (NM-HD-1V, NM-HD-2V and NM-HD-2VE) support all the features of the current low density voice/fax network modules (NM-xV) while offering significant advantages such as higher port and channel densities and a new generation of DSPs with greater memory and processing power. The Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules employ the same modular architecture as low density voice/fax network modules, and the new family of configurable voice interface cards supports all the existing voice/fax interface types.

The Cisco IP Communications Voice/Fax Network Modules (and associated VICs) are supported on Cisco 2600XM Series products, and Cisco 2691, 3640/A, and 3660 multiservice access routers, and Cisco 3725 and 3745 multiservice access routers starting with Cisco IOS® Software releases 12.2(15)ZJ, 12.3(4)T, and 12.4M. These network modules and VICs are supported on Cisco 2800 and 3800 Integrated Services Routers starting with Cisco IOS Software releases 12.3(8)T4 and 12.3(11)T, respectively. (Note: Cisco 2801 Integrated Services Router supports only the VICs since it does not contain a network module slot.) These VICs are also supported on Cisco 1751 and 1760 modular access routers platforms in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(4)T and mainline 12.3(5) or later releases.

Customers may be able to continue to purchase Cisco low density voice/fax network modules (NM-1V and NM-2V) and associated VICs through Cisco's Authorized Refurbished Equipment program.
