This product bulletin discusses the Cisco® MDS 9000 family multilayer switches that run Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS Software Release 3.2(1). It summarizes the hardware features supported and the software features available and provides software ordering information.

Support has been added for Cisco MDS 9134 34-Port Multilayer Fabric Switch and Cisco MDS 9222i Multilayer Fabric Switch.

Cisco MDS 9000 18/4-Port Multiprotocol Services Module support

Support has been added for Cisco MDS 9000 18/4-Port Multiprotocol Services Modules.

Cisco Storage Media Encryption

Cisco SME provides strong encryption as a transparent fabric service for data at rest on heterogeneous tape devices and virtual tape libraries. The solution includes secure lifecycle key management and integrated provisioning.

Cisco Data Mobility Manager (DMM)

Cisco DMM migrates data online (or offline) between heterogeneous disk arrays without any additional layer of virtualization or rewiring of existing storage area networks (SANs).

N-port virtualizer (NPV)

The NPV feature reduces the number of Fibre Channel domain IDs in core-edge SANs. Switches operating in the NPV mode do not join a fabric; they just pass traffic between core switch links and end devices, which eliminates the domain IDs for edge switches.

In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) for Cisco MDS 9222i

Nondisruptive, in-service software upgrade available for the Cisco MDS 9222i.

IP Security (IPsec) and Internet Key Exchange (IKE) support for IP Version 6 (IPv6)

IPsec and IKE now support IPv6 in addition to IPv4.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) flash drive Support

The two USB ports on the Cisco MDS 9500 Series Supervisor-2 Modules are now available for use. USB flash drives attached to these ports support the same functions as media in the external compact flash slot.

Cisco MDS 9000 family switches running Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS Software are qualified for environments requiring FIPS 140-2 level-2 security.

• Custom report enhancements, including scheduling and embedded topology maps
• Analysis reports for zoning, switch health, and end-to-end connectivity
• Performance threshold configuration flexibility
