Q. What new MSTP enhancements are in Release 7.0 ?
A. For more detailed information about the Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP, please visit: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/optical/ps2006/prod_qandas_list.html.
Q. What is the Cisco ONS 15310-MA SONET Multiservice Platform?
A. The Cisco ONS 15310-MA is a fully redundant, fully protected 6-rack-unit (6-RU) MSPP optimized for Metro Access networks. The Cisco ONS 15310-MA uses the same management interface (Cisco Transport Controller) as the Cisco ONS 15310-CL, ONS 15454, and ONS 15600 platforms, and is fully interoperable with these platforms. The Cisco ONS 15310-MA presents tremendous circuit scalability (DS-1, DS-3, EC1, and Ethernet options at both Layer 1 and 2), and includes Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP)-based optics capable of OC-3, OC-12, OC-48, and CWDM/DWDM options, plus a wide variety of protection options for up to 99.999 percent reliability. The Cisco ONS15310-MA offers the performance and value that customers have come to expect from Cisco Systems®. For more information about the Cisco ONS 15310-MA, please visit http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/optical/ps2001/prod_qandas_list.html.
Q. If I add the Cisco ONS 15310-MA to my existing optical network, do I need to upgrade?
A. Because the Cisco ONS 15310-MA uses standard interfaces and is GR-253-compliant, it will interoperate with existing networks. However, for full flexibility, network management and control, all network elements should be operating on the same software version as the Cisco ONS 15310-MA.
Q. What is the Cisco ONS 15454-CE-1000-4 Card?
A. The Cisco ONS 15454-CE-1000-4 Card for the Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP helps enable the delivery of true carrier-class, line-rate Gigabit Ethernet or subrate Gigabit Ethernet private-line services. Through its portfolio of Ethernet service cards, the Cisco ONS 15454 has helped service providers and enterprises to effectively and efficiently transition their networks from transporting only TDM services to delivering multiple services over a single, converged architecture, thus eliminating the need for multiple overlay infrastructures. With the introduction of the Cisco ONS 15454-CE-1000-4 card, the Cisco CE-Series portfolio (which also includes 8-port 10/100 Mbps Ethernet cards on Cisco ONS 15454 and ONS 15310 platforms) gives service providers the capability to scale from 1.5 Mbps to 1 Gigabit Ethernet private-line services.
Q. Is it important to upgrade my Cisco optical network to Release 7.0?
A. Cisco Optical Release 7.0 is important because it provides customer-focused features that give service providers and private enterprises a competitive edge in today's market. Release 7.0 will help enable users to generate new revenue streams and move toward a more efficient, flexible, converged network, reducing both capital and operating expenses in the process.
