Cisco Systems® announces Cisco® Transport Manager Release 6.0, an intelligent element management system (EMS) that supports the latest versions of Cisco ONS Family network elements along with the Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1), Cisco XR 12000 Series Router, Cisco MGX® 8880 Media Gateway, and the voice-enabled Cisco MGX 8850 and MGX 8830 multiservice switches.
Cisco Transport Manager intelligently supports configuration, fault, performance, and security management and serves as a foundation for integration into a larger, overall OSS environment. Table 1 lists the new features available in Cisco Transport Manager Release 6.0.
Table 1. New Features in Cisco Transport Manager Release 6.0
Feature
Description
Support for Cisco XR 12000 Series
With the addition of the Cisco XR 12000, Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 is now the single EMS solution for the entire portfolio of Cisco high-end carrier routing products.
Support for Cisco MGX 8880, MGX 8850 and MGX 8830
Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 introduces support for the Cisco MGX 8880 Media Gateway and voice-enabled Cisco MGX 8850 and MGX 8830 multiservice switches, replacing the Cisco Media Gateway Manager (MGM).
Support for Cisco MDS 9000
Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 supports the Cisco MDS (Multilayer Directors and Fabric Switches) 9000 as passive devices with the capability to cross-launch the Fabric Manager.
Citrix Metaframe and Tarantella Enterprise
Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 allows users to run the client application with the Citrix Metaframe and Tarantella Enterprise platforms.
Managing the login attempts to the EMS from unknown users
Cisco Transport Manager now monitors and reports login attempts from unknown users in the following ways: (1) the audit log generates a security violation record for each login attempt from an unknown user; (2) There is an "Unknown User Login Attempts" table in the GUI for tracking the IP address, the number of failed attempts, timestamp for the last failed attempt, and the lock-out state associated with each unknown user; (3) An EMS alarm will be generated if the number of failed login attempts from an IP address exceeds the maximum number of retries allowed.
RADIUS server configuration for the Cisco Transport Controller-based network elements
For the network elements running release 6.0, Cisco Transport Manager adds a "RADIUS Server" tab under the security tab of the Network Element Explorer. This tab allows users to configure the IP address and port information of the RADIUS server for authenticating network element users.
OSI/G.7721 Management for the Cisco Transport Controller-based network elements
To interoperate with older add/drop multiplexers (ADMs) and cross-connects that use OSI stack, the TCP/IP-based Cisco ONS 15000 Series uses tunneling protocols to transfer OSI over IP. Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 adds an OSI tab in the Network Element Explorer for managing OSI over IP tunneling.
Access security for the Cisco Transport Controller-based network elements
Users can now select secure mode for accessing the user or management interfaces of the Cisco Transport Controller-based network elements. Communication between Cisco Transport Manager and the network element relies on HTTPS or SSLIIOP if the secure mode for EMS-to-network-element access is enabled.
Broadcast and Multicast configuration for the Cisco ONS 15454 ML-Series cards
Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 supports broadcast and multicast Quality of Service (QoS) configuration over Layer 2 topology for the Cisco ONS 15454 ML-Series cards with Cisco ONS 15454 and ONS 15310 Release 5.0 and later.
Reporting Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) in "wrapped" state
When a packet-over-SONET (POS) port in an RPR is shut down, Cisco Transport Manager reports a "WRAPPED" alarm, and a wrapped state for the Layer 2 topology state.
Maximization of the manual routing window view
To provide a larger viewing space for manual links, the Circuit Creation Wizard allows users to expand the manual routing view to fill the entire window. A "restore" option can quickly revert the view back to the original.
Bridge and Roll support beyond Cisco ONS 15600
Support for Bridge and Roll is now available beyond Cisco ONS 15600. This feature is extended to Cisco ONS 15454, Cisco ONS 15454E, Cisco ONS 15310, and Cisco 15327.
Real-Time PM support for Cisco CRS-1 and Cisco XR 12000
Cisco Transport Manager 6.0 now supports Real-Time performance monitoring and graphics for Cisco CSR-1 and Cisco XR 12000.
Software Management for Cisco CRS-1 and Cisco XR 12000 Series
This feature allows users to add, activate, deactivate, remove, commit, or roll back a software version on multiple Cisco CRS-1 or XR 12000 network elements simultaneously.
Northbound interface for Cisco CRS-1, XR 12000, MGX 8880, MGX 8850 and MGX 8830
The TMF.814 Northbound Interface now supports fault and inventory management for the Cisco CRS-1, Cisco XR 12000 Series, Cisco MGX 8880 Media Gateway, and voice-enabled Cisco MGX 8850 and MGX 8830 multiservice switches.
Layer 3 Topology using BGP discovery for CRS-1 and XR 12000 Series
Cisco Transport Manager dynamically discovers Layer 3 links for all Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)-speaking Cisco CRS-1 systems and Cisco XR 12000 Series routers. The Network Map now allows Layer 3 link filtering for these network elements.
Cisco Transport Manager Release 6.0 Supported Network Elements
Following is a list of network elements and software versions supported by Cisco Transport Manager Release 6.0.
