Cisco Transport Manager 4.7 Product Bulletin

PRODUCT BULLETIN, NO. 2536

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Cisco® Systems announces the Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.7 providing new features and support for the latest versions of the Cisco ONS family of network elements.

Cisco Transport Manager is an intelligent element management system (EMS) for the Cisco ONS Family of products. It supports configuration, fault, performance, and security management. Cisco Transport Manager also serves as a foundation for integration into a larger, overall operations support system (OSS) environment.
Cisco has improved the operational efficiencies of managing a Cisco optical transport network. The new features available in the Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.7 include:

Table 1. New Features of the Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.7

Feature

Description

Support for ONS 15600 SDH

Adds support for ONS 15600 SDH Release 1.4, which is the first SDH version of the ONS 15600 product family. Management features for ONS 15600 SONET, are now available for ONS 15600 SDH.

Support for ONS 15216 EDFA3

Expands support of Cisco ONS 15000 series products to include Fault and Inventory Management, Topology/Link management, Software Download, Memory Restore and Backup of the Cisco ONS 15216 EDFA3.

CTC User Profiles

Users may now pre-define Cisco Transport Controller (CTC) usernames, passwords and CTC user privileges in the CTM database for NE Access Management.

Configurable NE Assignment Property for customized CTM User Profiles

With the NE Assignment Property now configurable, customized user profiles can be given the privilege to add or delete NEs or groups.

Date, Location, and Time Attributes for ONS 15216 EDFA2 and EDFA3

Users may set the Date, Location, and Time via the NE explorer of the ONS 15216 EDFA2 or EDFA3 NEs. In addition, users may set the time zone via the ONS 15216 EDFA2 NE Explorer.

NE Explorer Enhancements for ONS 15216 EDFA2 R2.4

The EDFA2 NE Explorer now provides five new tabs in addition to the existing Identification, and Address tabs. The new tabs are Config/Status, Diagnostics, Thresholds, Alarm Behavior, and SNMP.

Auto-provisioning SNMP Trap Destination for ONS 15216 EDFA2 and EDFA3

The Cisco Transport Manager server automatically configures itself as a trap destination in the ONS 15216 EDFA2 and EDFA3 NEs, and ensures that the traps are enabled. Fault Management using Cisco Transport Manager for these NEs is therefore enabled automatically.

Configurable SNMP Community String for ONS 15302 and ONS 15305

For the purpose of ensuring network security, the SNMP Community String can now be modified in the Address Tab of the NE Explorer for the ONS 15302, or the ONS 15305 NEs.

Topology/Link Management for the ONS 15302, and ONS 15305 NEs

Expands the Topology/Link Management function to the ONS 15302, ONS 15305, and ONS 15216 NEs. Links can be created or deleted between two NEs of the same type.

UPGRADE PATHS

The upgrade package for Cisco Transport Manager from Release 3.2(.x) to Release 4.7 is available for any customer currently using Cisco Transport Manager Release 3.2(.x), or earlier. The upgrade package for Cisco Transport Manager from Release 4.0 to Release 4.7 is available for any customer currently using Cisco Transport Manager 4.0. The upgrade package for Cisco Transport Manager from Release 4.1 or later is available for any customer currently using CTM 4.1(.x) or CTM R4.6.
Database migration is supported from Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.1(.x1) to Release 4.7 and from Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.6 to Release 4.7. All existing right-to-use (RTU) licenses remain valid for Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.7.
Customers with an older, standalone version of Cisco Transport Manager can follow the migration steps to upgrade their software to Cisco Transport Manager Release 4.7 in a standalone configuration. Customers can then back up and import data to their new high-availability installations.
The Cisco Transport Manager Large Enterprise (LE) to Small Service-provider (SS) system bundle upgrade package is available for any customer currently using the Cisco Transport Manager LE system bundle. The Cisco Transport Manager SS to SMK system bundle upgrade package is available for any customer currently using the Cisco Transport Manager SS system bundle that wishes to upgrade to the Cisco Transport Manager Software Media Kit.
These system bundle upgrade packages are not used to change a customer's version of Cisco Transport Manager.
