Cisco® announces new Cisco IOS® Software for Cisco 2520 Connected Grid Switches (CGS 2520s). These rugged switches are optimized for use in transmission and distribution (T&D) power substations. They are designed for substation networks to meet the harsh environments common in T&D substations. This product bulletin contains content and delivery information for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(53)EX.
The platform and features delivered with this ED release will be immediately incorporated into Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(58)SE and subsequent Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2SE train releases. It is important to note that there are no planned maintenance releases for this ED release. In addition, please note the migration path to the latest S release. Customers should prepare to upgrade using the migration path shown in Figure 1.

Detailed Information
Utility Smart Grid SmartPort Templates
Utility-specific SmartPort templates are included that allow you to apply default global or interface-level macros with a recommended configuration. Then you can easily set up the switch in a configuration optimized for utility deployments. The SmartPort macros configure security, quality of service (QoS), and logging functions to enhance ease of use and minimize configuration errors.
Connected-Grid Swap Drive
The connected-grid swap drive feature allows for speed of replacement if a hardware failure occurs. If the unit needs to be replaced, you can unmount the unit and take out the swap drive and place it in a replacement unit. When you boot up, the new unit will take on the configuration of the previous unit, and the network is operational again with no reconfiguration required.
• This is an innovative feature in the market and solves a critical business problem when dealing with devices deployed in remote environments.
Modbus Memory-Map Support
Modbus memory-map support enables integration of the CGS 2520 with existing Modbus-based utility applications such as Human Machine Interface (HMI). System information as well as port information can be exposed to Modbus-based applications using Modbus memory maps.
