This Product Bulletin serves as the original notification of Cisco IOS WAP Gateway Software Release 12.2XR reaching the End-of-Sale and End-of-Engineering milestones.
END-OF-SALE (EOS)
The End-of-Sale date for Cisco® IOS® WAP Gateway Software Releases 12.2XR running on the Cisco 3640 and 3660 Series routers is February 28, 2002. Software releases reaching End-of-Sale are no longer orderable, but continue to be downloadable through the Cisco Connection Online (CCO) Software Center and Field Service Operations (FSO). Software defects found in this release will not be addressed in maintenance releases. 12.2XR releases include 12.2(2)XR and 12.2(4)XR.
UPGRADE PATH
Customers currently validating the Cisco IOS WAP Gateway features on Cisco IOS Software Releases 12.2XR are recommended to upgrade to the latest version of Cisco IOS Software Major Release 12.2T. Release 12.2T provides all functionalities as Release 12.2XR, except the Cisco IOS WAP Gateway capability, preserving the hardware investment.

The emerging market for an Enterprise WAP service is now transitioning to the next-generation WAP 2.0 protocol where no WAP Gateway is needed to deliver end user's services.
Cisco customers with current SMARTnet® Onsite or SMARTnet contracts can upgrade to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2T as part of their service contracts. END OF ENGINEERING (EOE)
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2XR reached EoE on December 31, 2001, with maintenance Release 12.2(4)XR. Since Release 12.2XR reached EoE, there are no new maintenance releases for Release 12.2XR. The End-of-Engineering release continues to be available through CCO and FSO Websites until End of Life.
END OF LIFE
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2XR is scheduled to reach End of Life on April 30, 2002. At this time, support will no longer be provided for this release and the release will no longer be downloadable from CCO or FSO.
