OVERVIEW
Cisco Systems® announces Cisco IOS® Software updates for the Cisco® Catalyst® 2950, 2950 LRE, and 2940 series and Cisco Catalyst 2955 Intelligent Ethernet switches. This product bulletin contains content and delivery information for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(22)EA3.
Smartports enhancements have been made for all Cisco Catalyst switches addressed in this product bulletin. New Smartports macros have been created to optimize Cisco Catalyst switch connections with Cisco access points. These enhancements are available in the Cisco Device Manager as well as via command-line interface (CLI).
The Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Leave Timer has been added to all platforms addressed by this product bulletin. This feature allows users to configure the IGMP Leave Timer so that users can unsubscribe to multicast streams instantaneously. Currently, the default implementation supports a leave timer set to 5 seconds. Multicast video streams are typical scenarios where multiple set-top boxes (STBs) are connected to a single port. Users connected through one STB may want to switch channels. From the switch perspective, this change should occur transparent to other users connected to the same switch port. With the IGMP Leave Timer set to 5 seconds, it would take a long time before users could switch channels. The configurable IGMP Leave Timer allows users to tune out of a channel and join another multicast video stream instantaneously.
The 802.1x standard with guest VLAN and 802.1x with VLAN assignment support has been added to the Cisco Catalyst 2950 platform running the Standard Multilayer Image (SMI). With this release, all fixed-configuration Cisco Catalyst switches now support these two Identity-Based Networking Services features.

Cisco Device Manager
Cisco Device Manager has added support for Smartports macros to optimize the network connectivity between the fixed-configuration Cisco Catalyst switches and Cisco access points.

Because of export restrictions on strong cryptography, a separate image is required for cryptographic features (Secure Shell [SSH] Protocol, Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 [SNMPv3], and Kerberos Protocol). These software images can be downloaded from the corresponding Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) area of the links provided in this section.
