PRODUCT OVERVIEW
This product bulletin describes the content and delivery information for Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.3(8)XX, and should be used in conjunction with the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3T product bulletin. Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(8)XX is a short-lived, early deployment release that will be supported in the sixth release of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3T. It supports Cisco® 1700 Series routers (Cisco 1701, 1710, 1711, 1712, 1720, 1721, 1751, 1751-V, and 1760).
Note: Cisco 1710 and 1720 routers will not be supported in future PCG (Premises Communication Group) IOS Software releases after 12.3(8)XX.
The platform and features delivered with this early deployment release will be incorporated immediately into the sixth release of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3T. The timeframe for the availability of the sixth release of the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3T train is the first calendar quarter of 2005. This timeframe is subject to change.
Future early deployment releases will be provided for maintenance support until Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(8)XX becomes available in the sixth release of Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3T.

Customers should be prepared to upgrade using the migration path described in Figure 1.

ARP-Auto Logoff
Feature available across all Cisco 1700 Series routers and all feature sets.
ARP-Auto Logoff overcomes a limitation of the current Authorized Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) feature, which can cause premature logging off of peers. The ARP-Auto Logoff feature adds finer control for probing the authorized peers to provide more accurate and controlled detection of a peer's activeness. ARP-Auto Logoff allows for the configuration of the frequency on which a peer will be probed (the interval), as well as the maximum numbers of retries (the count).
The ARP-Auto Logoff feature is enabled by a new ARP interface command.
The new ARP probe function is enabled on an interface via an interface ARP configuration command. The configuration should be limited (but not enforced) to the interface that has the authorized ARP running. The new interface command format is:
[no] arp probe interval <1-10> count <1-60>
The interval value specifies the probing interval if the previous reply is not received, and the count specifies the limit of the maximum count of retries.
The start of the probing packet is triggered by the ARP timeout value for the entry. This value is calculated by the ARP timestamp, plus the configured ARP timeout value on the interface. Therefore, the real probe starting time is calculated based on the last received ARP reply packet for this entry.
To verify that the ARP probing process is running, use the following command:
show cpu process | in ARP
