VPN Security

Role Requirements

To achieve a Cisco VPN/Security Specialization, partners must fulfill each defined job role: Account Manager, Systems Engineer, and Field Engineer. An individual can be allocated to a maximum of two job roles in a maximum of two specializations.

Technology is continually evolving and therefore, Cisco specialization requirements are subject to change. Please refer to this site often to ensure that you meet all program requirements before you submit your specialization application.

Cisco VPN/Security Specialization requirements are as follows:

Account Manager
Responsible for sales methodology and customer engagement.

Required Prerequisite:

  • Cisco Sales Expert (#646-203)
    Note: From March 7, 2006, through May 31, 2006, you may earn your Cisco Sales Expert badge by successfully completing either exam #646-203 or #646-202. After June 1, 2006, exam #646-202 will be retired and be replaced by exam #646-203; however the certification remains valid for two years from the exam pass date.

Systems Engineer
Presales engineer responsible for security solution planning and design.

Field Engineer
Post-sales engineer responsible for security solution implementation and operation.

  • Cisco Advanced Security Field Specialist
    Note: this certification is not required. However, once the training which supports the certification is globally available this certification will be an added role requirement.

Note: Partners can only hold a single specialization in a given technology. For example:

  • A partner cannot hold a VPN/Security Specialization and an Advanced Security Specialization.
  • If a partner achieves the Advanced Security Specialization before their current VPN/Security Specialization expires, the older specialization will be rendered invalid.
