Naming Guidelines
This appendix provides information about naming users, roles and objects.
Naming Rules for Users and Roles
Table B-1 lists the rules for WLSE usernames, passwords, and roles. These rules apply to WLSE users configured in the Administration > User Admin subtab and to users configured by using the CLI username command.
Table B-1 Allowable Characters for Users and Roles

• No more than 32 characters.

Note If the user is not using the CLI (that is, the user's CLI access privilege is set to 0), the username can begin with a number.
• Any character from Table B-2 except the colon, semi-colon, single quote, double quote, or space.

User Password
|
• No limit on length.
• Case sensitive.
• Any character except for the single quote or double quote.

User Role
|
• No more than 32 characters.
• Case sensitive.
• Any character from Table B-2, except for the hyphen (dash, minus sign) and the full stop (period).

Naming Rules for Hostnames and Device Names
The naming rules for hostnames and device names are:
•
Blank spaces are not allowed.
•
The first character in a name must be alphanumeric.
•
The only valid characters are the alphanumeric characters, the minus sign (-), the period (.), and the underscore (_).
Rules for Other Names and Descriptions
Table B-2 lists the allowable characters for names and descriptions in most WLSE dialogs (other than user names, roles, device names, and hostnames).
The number of characters allowed are:

Names

For templates, up to 56 characters are allowed.
–
For faults settings, up to 60 characters are allowed.
–
For all other names, up to 64 characters are allowed.
Note
Each job name (configuration job, firmware job, or AP radio scan) must be unique.
•
Descriptions—up to 256 characters are allowed
There are additional rules for some WLSE screens. These rules are included in the online help for those screens.

Do not use the Enter key in any description fields.

Naming Rules for the Built-In AAA Server
The built-in AAA server on the WLSE Express allows up to 255 characters and any character except for the forward slash (/) in client names, group names, and usernames.
