Overview
This chapter describes the Cisco Aironet client utility auto configuration feature used to automatically configure the Cisco Aironet Wireless LAN Adapters (client adapters) on Apple PowerBooks and Power Macs running the Mac OS X (version 10.1) operating system.

The Mac OS X client utility and driver installer (version 1.0.0) supports a special feature that allows a post installation script to execute following the successful installation of the client utility. The post installation script (hereafter referred to as the configuration file) consists of an XML script file, which contains parameters used to automatically configure the client adapter located in an Apple PowerBook or Power Mac running the Mac OS X (version 10.1) operating system.

Configuration Script
The configuration script is an XML formatted file that allows easy editing and customizing of the wireless options for the client adapter. The configuration script allows you to specify one or more profiles for specific wireless networks. The configuration script must be named startup.dict and placed in the root directory of the Macintosh startup disk drive.
The configuration script file can be edited using a standard text editor, provided you are familiar with XML formatting or with an XML editor. Apple provides an XML editor (PropertyListEditor) in the Developer Tools package for the Mac OS X operating system. This editor simplifies the creation and editing of the configuration script file because it handles the XML formatting.

Executing the Configuration Script
When the Mac OS X client utility and driver installer completes the installation and the Macintosh restarts, the information in the configuration script, startup.dict, is used to create location profiles and to configure your client adapter. The location profiles are saved on the Macintosh hard disk.
