1 TimeCardView is an add-on application that enables you to track time and attendance. For more information, see Release Notes for TimeCardView 8.0.
* Licenses with - NR-are licenses that are installed in the factory or licenses that are issued as a replacement for legacy licenses.
Note
You do not need to purchase IVR session licenses if you are only planning on using voicemail and auto attendant with basic IVR applications. IVR session licenses are only required if your application contains advanced IVR features such as email, fax, database access or VXML scripts.
Each IVR session consumes one port and thus reduces the number of ports available for use by voicemail and auto-attendant. If the number of IVR session licenses is greater than or equal to the number of ports, then voicemail and auto-attendant will be disabled due to the lack of available ports. Please carefully consider how many IVR sessions you need and only install or activate licenses for that number of IVR sessions.Table 4 lists the number of voice ports that are installed by default.

Cisco Unity Express Software License Activation
Cisco Unity Express requires that the software be activated using the Cisco Software Licensing (CSL) process. For more information, see Software Activation for Cisco Unity Express 7.1 and Later Versions.
Note
When you upgrade to version 8.0 from any version prior to 7.1, you must replace your pre-CSL licenses with CSL licenses. You are required to migrate your licenses for mailbox features and port features. If you have purchased the optional IVR features, you should also migrate your licenses for the IVR features.
Software Upgrade Overview
Depending on the Cisco Unity Express version you are upgrading from, different software upgrade methods are available. The following methods are supported to upgrade to Cisco Unity Express 8.0.x:
•
A "clean" installation process upgrade using the online installer with the software install clean command. For specific procedures, see the "Upgrading to Cisco Unity Express Using Clean Install" section in the Cisco Unity Express 8.0 Installation and Upgrade Guide.
•
Upgrade using the online installer with the software install upgrade command. For specific procedures, see the "Upgrading Cisco Unity Express Using Software Install Upgrade" section in the Cisco Unity Express 8.0 Installation and Upgrade Guide.
•
A "clean" installation process upgrade using the boot helper. For specific procedures, see the "Reinstalling a Cisco Unity Express Image Using the Boot Helper" section in the Cisco Unity Express 8.0 Installation and Upgrade Guide. We recommend using this upgrade process only if the other methods are unsuccessful.
Table 7 provides matrixes of the upgrade processes available for the different software versions for the NME-CUE. If you upgrade using either of the "clean" installation processes, the existing configuration files on the system are not preserved. Any voice mail, greetings, or passwords configured on the system are lost.
To preserve your configuration, you must first back up the existing configuration files and restore them after performing the upgrade. If the configuration files are not backed up before performing the upgrade, then Cisco Unity Express must be reconfigured.
When planning your software upgrade, consider the following:
•
If you upgrade the software using the online installer, downgrading to an earlier software version is not supported.
•
If your system is using an AIM-CUE module, you must upgrade to the AIM2-CUE module before upgrading the software to Cisco Unity Express 8.0.x.
•
Downgrading to a license with support for fewer personal mailboxes is not supported. If you want to change the system to support fewer mailboxes, and you cannot restore any previous backups on the larger system, then you must purchase a new license and perform a new installation.
Software Compatibility
Cisco Unity Express is compatible with different versions of Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express. For information about Cisco Unity Express 8.0.x compatibility, see the Cisco Unity Express Compatibility Matrix. See also the Cisco Unity Express Guide to Hardware Migration and Software Upgrades.

Support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express 8.0
Cisco Unity Express 8.0 provides support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express 8.0.
Removal of Support for Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express GUI Functionality
Beginning with Cisco Unity Express 8.0, the Cisco Unity Express GUI no longer provides functionality for configuring Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express. Cisco recommends using Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) to configure Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express.
Cisco Unity Express Programmatic XML Interface
The Cisco Unity Express Programmatic Interface (PI) provides a set of well-defined application PI (API) and data structures which external software systems can invoke to perform configurations on the Cisco Unity Express system.
The Cisco Unity Express PI is implemented as a web service. Like most web services, it uses HTTP as the communication protocol and XML documents for exchanging information between client and server. The service is based on Representational State Transfer (REST) architecture and uses JAX-RS specifications for implementation.
The Cisco Unity Express PI provides access for configuration purpose only and does not cover the following functionality:
•
Subscriber voicemail access
•
Change notifications
•
System administration related task like Software Upgrade, and Backup/Restore
•
Reset to factory defaults
•
Reporting
For more information, see the Cisco Unity Express Programmatic Interface Service Programming Guide.
User GUI for VoiceMail Subscribers
Beginning with Cisco Unity Express 8.0, a separate user GUI is available for voicemail subscribers to configure subscriber settings. Functions available through the user GUI include:
•
Creating greetings
•
Recording the spoken name
•
Modifying the personal profile and the GDM profile
•
Adding and deleting private distribution lists
•
Selecting how to be notified when receiving a voicemail
•
Having Cisco Unity Express transfer the call to another number
Auto Configuration
When the system boots initially after a clean installation, the administrator is prompted whether to configure the system. If no response is provided within 120 seconds, and there is no configuration or startup configuration, the system automatically configures Cisco Unity Express to the following settings:
•
Default primary NTP server to the host router
•
Time zone set to GMT
•
Call agent set to CCM
•
DNS set to nothing
SIP and JTAPI Wildcard Trigger Patterns
Beginning with Cisco Unity Express 8.0, you can configure a trigger to specify a number pattern instead of a single number. Incoming calls targeted to a number that matches the pattern cause the associated script to be invoked. The script determines which number was dialed by inspecting the called number attribute associated with the call. Cisco Unity Express supports a limit of 32 characters in the trigger pattern. Wildcard patterns are supported for both SIP and JTAPI triggers.
Stored Caller Name
Cisco Unity Express 8.0 adds support for storing the caller's name if the caller is a non-subscriber. When Cisco Unity Express receives the calling party name for a subscriber or non-subscriber in the SIP or JTAPI signaling, Cisco Unity Express 8.0 stores the calling party name, the calling party number and the message itself.
For new voicemails being deposited through the TUI, Cisco Unity Express now stores the calling party name along with the message if the name is present in the call signaling. For fax messages received by Cisco Unity Express through SMTP, the system stores the display name present in the RFC 5322 From header field along with the fax message.
For messages received through VPIM, Cisco Unity Express now stores the display name present in the From header field along with the message. When a sender name is available for a message, the system includes that name (in textual form) in IMAP, VVE, Web voicemail, message notifications and in SIP MWI notifications containing message envelope information.
Notification of Scheduled Backup Status
This feature enables an administrator to configure the system to notify users about the success or failure of a scheduled backup. Because scheduled backups generally run late at night or at odd hours, this feature enables the administrator to be remotely notified about the status of the scheduled backup. The administrator can set the notification to be sent through email, e-page, or a voice message delivered to the voice mailbox.
Message Notification Enhancement
Cisco Unity Express 8.0 adds an enhancement to the system-wide message notification. The following two options have been added in this release:
•
Notification message prefix text—This setting enables the administrator to append a system-wide message before a notification. .
•
Notification message suffix text—This setting enables the administrator to append a signature message after a notification.
AAA User Steps and Custom Variable Setting Through the Telephony User Interface (TUI)
Cisco Unity Express Script Editor supports four new AAA user steps:
•
User Authenticate: Authenticates a user based on username/password or extension/PIN
•
Authorize User: Authorizes a user based against an operation or a privilege
•
Audit Step: Step for logging audit information for the user
•
Logout User: Logs out a previously authenticated user from the system
IMAP Access from iPhone
Cisco Unity Express 8.0 adds support for IMAP access from the iPhone.

CSCtj89566Symptom: Cannot get "cell phone notification" to work on a Unified Communications Manager Express system - UC560 running Cisco IOS 15.0(1)XA2 and Cisco Unity Express (CUE) software release 8.0.2 when a new voicemail is left for a subscriber. When the cell phone number is used, the device rings once and then the call drops - SIP debugs show that CUE sends a CANCEL.
Conditions: Phone notification works fine if the PSTN phone device is a land line number. The problem is readily reproducible with "smartphones". With smartphoneA the phone keeps on ringing but when answered the call drops immediately. On smartphoneB if you manage to answer the call within the first ring then it works fine.
Workaround:
1.
Use a Land Line phone number if available.
2.
Once you see an incoming call or a missed call from the UC560 / CUE system pilot number on your smartphone, then callback into your voicemail box to check the message.
CSCtl04193Symptom: Subscriber trying to login to their account and put their PIN they get an error stating that the mailbox is in use. Java Traces will show "ERROR ccn LibMedia DBUG EXCEPTION:java.lang.Exception: Version is incorrect".

CSCtl53894Symptom: While executing an aef script, the initial DTMF digit timeout is always 3 seconds regardless of what is set in the timeout of the "Dial-by-Extension Menu" step.
Conditions: Any aef script that uses the "Dial-by-Extension Menu" step that is running in CUE version 8.0.1 or greater.
Workaround: Use the "Menu" step instead of the "Dial-by-Extension" Menu step. If dial-by-extension anytime is being used in the "Dial-by-Extension Menu" step, to achieve the same functionality with the "Menu" step do the following:
1.
Use the "Menu" step to collect the first digit and then use the "Get Digit String" step to get the remaining digits.
2.
Concatenate the first digit with the last digits to get the extension for dial-by-extension.

DISCLAIMER FOR RECORDING A CONVERSATION
The use of monitoring, recording, or listening devices to eavesdrop, monitor, retrieve, or record phone conversations or other sound activities, whether or not contemporaneous with transmission, may be illegal in certain circumstances under federal, state and/or local laws. Legal advice should be sought prior to implementing any practice that monitors or records any phone conversation. Some laws require some form of notification to all parties to a phone conversation, such as by using a beep tone or other notification method or requiring the consent of all parties to the phone conversation, prior to monitoring or recording the phone conversation. Some of these laws incorporate strict penalties. In cases where local laws require a periodic beep while a conversation is being recorded, the Cisco Unity Express voice-mail system provides a user with the option of activating "the beep." Prior to activating the Cisco Unity Express live record function, check the laws of all applicable jurisdictions. This is not legal advice and should not take the place of obtaining legal advice from a lawyer. IN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL DISCLAIMER THAT ACCOMPANIES THIS CISCO UNITY EXPRESS PRODUCT, CISCO ADDITIONALLY DISCLAIMS ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, BOTH CIVIL AND CRIMINAL, AND ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE UNAUTHORIZED AND/OR ILLEGAL USE OF THIS CISCO UNITY EXPRESS PRODUCT. THIS DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT NECESSARILY LIMITED TO, THE UNAUTHORIZED AND/OR ILLEGAL RECORDING AND MONITORING OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATIONS IN VIOLATION OF APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE AND/OR LOCAL LAWS.
