Checking the New Modem for Damage
Visually inspect the modem replacement kit for damage and completeness. Contact Cisco TAC if the modem replacement kit that you received was damaged during shipping or if parts are missing. The modem replacement kit consists of the following items:

External modem (see Figure 1)
•
Modem cable
•
Modem power cable
•
Telephone extension cable

Removing the Old Modem
Step 1
Turn the modem power switch to the off position.
Step 2
Disconnect the modem power cable from the power cable port on the back of the modem.
Step 3
Disconnect the other end of the modem power cable from the power outlet.
Step 4
Disconnect the telephone extension cable from the connector in the far right position on the back of the modem, labeled "Line."
Step 5
Disconnect the DB25 connector end (the larger connector) of the modem cable from the back of the modem.
Installing the New Modem
Step 1
If you have a T1 CAS or a pure IP Cisco MeetingPlace system, place the modem on the back right corner of the Cisco MeetingPlace Audio Server. The modem cable connections must face the back of the Cisco MeetingPlace Audio Server. Do not move the modem from this space.
If you have a T1 PRI or an E1 Cisco MeetingPlace system, place the modem into the empty slot on the far left of the breakout box. Do not move the modem from this space.
Step 2
Verify that the modem power switch is in the off position.
Step 3
Connect the modem power cable to the far left position on the back of the modem.
Step 4
Connect the other end of the modem power cable into the power outlet.
Step 5
Connect the telephone extension cable to the connector in the far right position on the back of the modem, labeled "Line."
Step 6
Connect the DB25 end (the larger connector) of the modem cable to the back of the modem.
Step 7
Turn the modem power switch to the on position.
Restarting the Cisco MeetingPlace 8100 Series
Restart your Cisco MeetingPlace 8100 series to initialize the modem. If your Cisco MeetingPlace system is not working correctly, contact Cisco TAC.
Step 1
Access the command line interface (CLI) of the Cisco MeetingPlace 8100 series.
Note
CLI commands are case sensitive. For CLI command information, see the Configuration Guide for Cisco MeetingPlace Audio Server Release 5.3.
Step 2
Log in as an administrator. The tech$ prompt appears.
Note
For Cisco MeetingPlace Release 5.2, the default administrator username is tech and the default administrator password is wit!tra$. For Cisco MeetingPlace Release 5.3, the default administrator username is admin and the default administrator password is cisco. See the Installation and Upgrade Guide for Cisco MeetingPlace Audio Server Release 5.3 for more information about logging in to Cisco MeetingPlace.
Step 3
Verify that your Cisco MeetingPlace 8100 series is not processing calls by doing the following:
a.
At the tech$ prompt, enter activity. The VUI Internal Status Utility menu appears.
b.
To see a quick status of all ports, enter 1. A list of the ports appears. The ports are listed numerically under the Port heading and the port status is under the Ap heading. Table 1 lists the Ap headings.

Verify that all the ports are inactive by ensuring that all ports have -- under the Ap heading. Press Enter to go to the next page. When you have scrolled through all the ports, the VUI Internal Status Utility menu appears.
Note
If any ports are active, wait for the calls to finish before proceeding.
d.
Exit the activity command by entering 0. The tech$ prompt appears.
Step 4
At the tech$ prompt, enter restart enable.
Step 5
To ensure that the new modem is working properly, enter hwconfig. Output similar to one of the following examples appears:

Verifying that the New Modem Works Correctly
Step 1
Dial in to the modem using the modem telephone number.
Step 2
Verify that you can log in to Cisco MeetingPlace as a technician. If the modem or your Cisco MeetingPlace system is not working correctly, contact Cisco TAC.
