Using PAWS-M, you can control upgrades, restarts, and switch versions for Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unity Connection servers, provided they are Release 8.6(1) or higher. PAWS-M can control upgrades for Cisco Unified Presence (CUP) servers provided they are release 9.0(2) or higher.
Using PAWS-M, the user can create an inventory of servers, and organize the servers into groups, to control upgrades, switch versions, and restarts of their application servers using one unified interface.
Figure 1 provides a high-level view of the Cisco PAWS-M architecture.

The user accesses PAWS-M through an administration GUI interface. Once an operation task has been scheduled (such as upgrade or restart), the PAWS-M platform sends a SOAP message to the UC Application servers (CUCM, or UC) to initiate the desired operation (upgrade, switch version, or restart). File Servers supply the Upgrade and COP files for the Application Server upgrades.
