Introduction

The Cisco Unified Application Environment is a development and runtime platform designed for creating, deploying, and executing converged voice and data applications. It is integrated with Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unified Presence.

These release notes describe the new features and caveats for the Cisco Unified Application Environment, Release 2.4(2).

The following sections describe new features and changes that are pertinent to the Cisco Unified Application Environment, Release 2.4(2) or later.

Software Upgrade

The following sections describe the upgrade procedures

•Release 2.2 or 2.3 to Release 2.4

•Release 2.4.1 to Release 2.4.2

Release 2.2 or 2.3 to Release 2.4

To upgrade from Release 2.2 or 2.3 to Release 2.4.x, refer to the Upgrade Guide for the Cisco Unified Application Environment, Release 2.4 listed in the Related Documentation.

Release 2.4.1 to Release 2.4.2

To upgrade from Release 2.4.1 to Release 2.4.2, to install the following components:

1. Cisco Unified Core Addendum Update

2. Cisco Unified Platform Services

3. Cisco Unified Application Server

4. Cisco Unified Media Engine

Note You are not required to uninstall the previous version of the Cisco Unified Application Environment before installing this version.

Before You Begin

1. From this location: http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/CUAE, download this executable file: CUAE-coreadd-update-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Core Addendum Update).

2. From this location: http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/CUAE-pub, download the following executable files:

–CUAE-platsvc-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Platform Services)

–CUAS-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Application Server)

–CUME-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Media Engine)

Procedure

Step 1 Run the CUAE-coreadd-update-2.4.x.exe self-extracting installer.

The package is extracted and runs a verification. Then end-user license agreement appears.

Step 2 Read it, and if you agree with the terms of the agreement, select I Agree.

A console appears with output indicating the progress of the installation setup.

Step 3 After the Cisco Unified Core Addendum Update is installed, use the procedures in the Installation Guide for the Cisco Unified Application Environment, Release 2.4 listed in the Related Documentation to install these components in the following order:

a. CUAE-platsvc-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Platform Services)

b. CUAS-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Application Server)

c. CUME-2.4.x.exe (Cisco Unified Media Engine)

JTAPI Feature Additions

This section briefly describes the new JTAPI feature additions for this release of the Cisco Unified Application Environment. For complete information, see the API Reference User Guide at the following URL: http://www.cisco.com/web/developer/cuae/content/docs.html.

•JTapiStartMonitoring—Used to start monitoring an active call on the specified destination. The mixed RTP stream of the call will be sent to the listener device, which can be a CTI port or a phone.

•JTapiSendXSIData—Used to send XSI data to the monitored phone using JTapi. This action can be used to send text, soft menus, and other IP phone-supported XML schemes to be displayed on the IP Phone.

•JTapiNonTriggeringSubscribe—Used to register a device dynamically from the application. This feature eliminates the need for the user to configure the device from the management console.

•JTapiUnsubscribe—Used to dynamically unregister a device. This is the counterpart of the JTapiNonTriggeringSubscribe, and enables the application to change the set of monitored devices at runtime without requiring manual configuration changes from the management console.

•JTapiHold—Used to put an active call on Hold on a monitored device.

•JTapiResume—Used to resume a held call on a monitored device.

•JTapiGetCallForwardStatus—Third party JTAPI action that can be used to get the call forward status of a monitored phone using JTAPI.

•JTapiGetDeviceStatus—Used to get the device status of a monitored phone using JTAPI. The device status can be Idle, Active, Alerting, Held, or Unknown.

Using Bug Toolkit

Known problems (bugs) are graded according to severity level. These release notes contain descriptions of:

•All severity level 1 or 2 bugs.

•Significant severity level 3 bugs.

You can search for problems by using the Cisco Software Bug Toolkit. To access Bug Toolkit, you need the following items:

•Internet connection

•Web browser

•Cisco.com user ID and password

To use the Software Bug Toolkit, follow these steps:

Step 1 To access the Bug Toolkit, go to http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs.

Step 2 Log in with your Cisco.com user ID and password.

Step 3 To look for information about a specific problem, enter the bug ID number in the "Search for Bug ID" field, then click Go.

Open Caveats

Table 2 lists the open caveats. For information about an individual bug, click the Identifier to access the online record, including workarounds.

Note Because defect status continually changes, be aware that Table 2 reflects a snapshot of the defects that were open at the time the release notes were compiled. For an updated view of open defects, access Bug Toolkit and follow the instructions as described in the "Using Bug Toolkit" section.

Resolved Caveats

Table 3 lists Severity 1, 2 and 3 defects that are resolved.
