How can I enable dual video, duo video, people and content, or H.239 on my Cisco acquired Codian Conferencing product or Cisco TelePresence Serial Gateway Series product?
Dual video, Duo Video, People + Content and H.239 are all terms that describe support for a second live video channel in an H.323 call. Such a channel is most often used for the transmission of content, like the screen of a presenter's PC (so the term 'content channel' is also used). The terms all have slightly different meanings. Dual video is a generic term describing this capability. Duo Video and People + Content are proprietary implementations from Cisco TelePresence and Polycom respectively. H.239 is the ITU standard for a second video channel; this is supported by all the major vendors, and is the only content channel standard supported by Cisco acquired Codian products or Cisco TelePresence Serial Gateway Series products on H.323 video calls.
Cisco acquired Codian products need to be configured to enable H.239. Any H.323 endpoint that also supports the H.239 protocol can source this channel, as can a VNC connection, though some endpoints need to be configured to use H.239 instead of their proprietary solution.
To use H.239 in a conference on a Cisco TelePresence MCU you need to first enable Content status on the MCU device-wide in the Settings > Content page. Then, when you configure the conference, make sure it is enabled for H.239 (set H.239 content channel video to Enabled). Additionally, if you use pre-configured participants, you also need to enable each endpoint that you want to use as an H.239 source by setting H.239 video contribution to Enabled for that endpoint.
See the online help topic H.239 (content channel video) support which explains the features of this channel, its sources and how to enable H.239 on an MCU.
