Warning	To prevent bodily injury when mounting or servicing this unit in a rack, you must take special precautions to ensure that the system remains stable. The following guidelines are provided to ensure your safety: •This unit should be mounted at the bottom of the rack if it is the only unit in the rack. •When mounting this unit in a partially filled rack, load the rack from the bottom to the top with the heaviest component at the bottom of the rack. •If the rack is provided with stabilizing devices, install the stabilizers before mounting or servicing the unit in the rack. Warning	To prevent the switch from overheating, do not operate it in an area that exceeds the maximum recommended ambient temperature of 113°F (45°C). To prevent airflow restriction, allow at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) of clearance around the ventilation openings. Statement 17B

EMC Environmental Conditions for Products Installed in the European Union

This section applies to products to be installed in the European Union.

The equipment is intended to operate under the following environmental conditions with respect to EMC:

•A separate defined location under user's control.

•Earthing and bonding shall meet the requirements of ETS 300 253 or CCITT K27.

•AC power distribution shall be one of the following types, where applicable: TN-S and TN-C as defined in IEC 364-3.

Class A Notice for FCC

Modifying the equipment without Cisco's authorization may result in the equipment no longer complying with FCC requirements for Class A digital devices. In that event, your right to use the equipment may be limited by FCC regulations, and you may be required to correct any interference to radio or television communications at your own expense.

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. Warning	Voice over IP (VoIP) service and the emergency calling service do not function if power fails or is disrupted. After power is restored, you might have to reset or reconfigure equipment to regain access to VoIP and the emergency calling service. In the USA, this emergency number is 911. Long-Reach Ethernet (LRE) Caution Statements

These caution statements apply to the Catalyst 2950 LRE switches.

Caution If telephone services, such as voice or Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), use the same cabling as the LRE traffic, you must connect the LRE to a plain old telephone service (POTS) splitter. The splitter routes LRE data (high-frequency) and voice (low-frequency) traffic from the telephone line to the switch and private branch exchange (PBX) switch or public switched telephone network (PSTN).

If the other telephone services are connected through a PBX switch, you can use a Cisco LRE 48 POTS Splitter. The PBX routes voice traffic to private telephone networks and the PSTN. For more information about the Cisco LRE 48 POTS Splitter (PS-1M-LRE-48), refer to the Installation and Warranty Notes for the Cisco LRE 48 POTS Splitter.

Caution If the installation does not have a PBX, you need to use a homologated POTS splitter to connect to the PSTN. For more information about homologated POTS splitters, contact your Cisco sales representative.

If a connection to a telephone network is not required, you do not need a splitter, and you can connect the switch to the patch panel.

For all customers, partners, resellers, and distributors who hold valid Cisco service contracts, Cisco Technical Support provides 24-hour-a-day, award-winning technical assistance. Submitting a Service Request

Using the online TAC Service Request Tool is the fastest way to open S3 and S4 service requests. (S3 and S4 service requests are those in which your network is minimally impaired or for which you require product information.) After you describe your situation, the TAC Service Request Tool automatically provides recommended solutions. If your issue is not resolved using the recommended resources, your service request will be assigned to a Cisco TAC engineer. The TAC Service Request Tool is located at this URL:

For S1 or S2 service requests or if you do not have Internet access, contact the Cisco TAC by telephone. (S1 or S2 service requests are those in which your production network is down or severely degraded.) Definitions of Service Request Severity

To ensure that all service requests are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established severity definitions.

Severity 1 (S1)—Your network is "down," or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.

Severity 2 (S2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.

Severity 3 (S3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.

Severity 4 (S4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
