About This Guide
The Cisco IOS Desktop Switching Software Configuration Guide describes how to configure and use standard edition software features on the Catalyst 2900 series XL and Catalyst 3500 series XL switches (hereafter referred to as the 2900 and the 3500 XL switch) using the command-line interface (CLI) and web-based applications.
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Audience and Scope
This guide is for the network manager responsible for configuring 2900 or 3500 XL switches. Before using the material in this guide, you should be familiar with the concepts and terminology of Ethernet and local area networking.
The scope of this guide is to provide the information you need to change the configuration of a switch, create and manage clusters of switches, and troubleshoot problems that might arise.
Organization
This guide is organized into the following chapters:
Chapter 1, "" is a functional overview of the switch software. It describes the software features of IOS Release 12.0(5)XP, the switches that support the release, and examples of how the software can support different deployment strategies.
Chapter 2, "," describes how to use the different management interfaces.
