About This Guide
This guide helps you understand the Enterprise Edition software for the Catalyst 2820 series and Catalyst 1900 series switches, hereafter referred to as the Catalyst 2820 and the Catalyst 1900 switches.
If you are using a Catalyst 2820 switch in an emulated LAN (ELAN), you should use this guide with the Cisco IOS Release 11.3 documentation set for routers.
Audience and Scope
The Catalyst 2820 Series and Catalyst 1900 Series Enterprise Edition Software Configuration Guide is for experienced network administrators who are responsible for configuring and maintaining Catalyst 2820 and Catalyst 1900 switches.
Organization
This guide includes the following chapters:
•
Chapter 1, "Overview," has model and feature descriptions of the
Catalyst 2820 and Catalyst 1900 series switches. It also describes the conventions and Main Menu of the enhanced software.
•
Chapter 2, "Virtual LANs," has procedures for virtual LAN (VLAN) configuration and describes VLAN concepts.
•
Chapter 3, "Additional Features," has procedures for configuring Fast EtherChannel, Uplink Fast, Terminal Access Controller Access Control System Plus (TACACS+), and Configuration File Upload/Download.
•
Appendix A, "Configuration Examples Related to VLAN Features," has three illustrated examples that describe VLAN features of the Catalyst 2820 and
Catalyst 1900 series switches that might differ from VLAN features of other Cisco devices.
