Introduction
The ATM modules use Catalyst 2820 firmware version 7.02 or above. You can check the installed firmware version by using the firmware menu. For firmware upgrade procedures, refer to the Catalyst 2820 Series Installation and Configuration Guide. You can access this document on CCO.
Note
These ATM modules can only be installed in a Catalyst 2820 switch.
Cisco IOS Release 12.0(5) Support
Cisco IOS Release 11.3T is already installed on the ATM modules. However, you can download the IOS 12.0(5) module Flash image from the Cisco Connection Online (CCO). If the software gets corrupted, use the firmware configuration menu to reinstall the module IOS Flash image. For details on how to install the module Flash image, refer to the Catalyst 2820 Series Installation and Configuration Guide.
Installation Notes
You must tighten the screws while inserting the module in the switch.
Warning
Tighten screws to activate.
Waarschuwing Schroeven aandraaien om te activeren.
Varoitus Aktivoi kiristämällä ruuvit.
Attention Pour activer : serrez les vis.
Warnung Schrauben anziehen für Aktivierung.
Avvertenza Per attivare: stringere la vite.
Advarsel Stram skruene for å aktivere.
Aviso Aperte os parafusos para ativar.
¡Advertencia! Para activar, apriete los tornillos.
Varning! Aktivera genom att dra åt skruvarna

Important Notes
Password Recovery
If you forget your password for the ATM modules, you can reset the password to the factory default by doing the following:
Step 1
Go to the main menu of firmware version 7.02.
Step 2
Enter P, and press Return.
The Port Configuration menu appears.
Step 3
Enter F, and press Return.
The default password is no password.
Note
When you reset the ATM modules to the factory defaults, you lose all of your configurations. You must then reconfigure the module.
New and Changed Information
New Features in Release 12.0(5)
There are no new features for this release. However, see "Resolved Caveats" section for a list of resolved caveats included in this release.
New Features in Release 11.3T
Multiple Virtual LANs
Each ATM trunk supports a maximum of 64 active virtual LANs (VLANs) at one time.
Emulated LAN Support
This release of the ATM modules supports multiple emulated LANs (ELANs). You can logically group users on Ethernet and ATM networks by mapping VLANs on the Ethernet network to ELANs on the ATM network.
RFC-1483 PVC Support
The ATM modules support multiple VLAN mappings for RFC-1483 Logical Link Control (LLC) encapsulation. With RFC 1483, you can transport Ethernet frames over PVCs.
Newly Supported Cisco IOS Commands
•
Catalyst ATM Modules-Specific Commands
The following ATM modules-specific commands are now supported:
Command Description Type Modeatm bind
Binds a permanent virtual connection (PVC) to or from a VLAN.
IOS/ATM
P
show atm vlan
Shows the relationship between the VLAN and the PVCs.
IOS/ATM
P

Cisco IOS Commands
The following Cisco IOS commands are now supported:

Upgrading the Module Firmware
If your attempt to upgrade the ATM module firmware fails while the module is in normal operation, the expansion slot LED on the Catalyst 2820 switch turns amber. The module continues normal operation, but the module image stored in the Flash memory is corrupted. When you reset the ATM module, it will not find a valid Cisco IOS image, and the ATM module will not past the power-on self-test (POST). To correct this problem, repeat the firmware upgrade procedure to download a new firmware image on the ATM module.
Unsupported Cisco IOS Commands
The Cisco IOS ping and traceroute commands are not supported.
Running Configuration
You cannot save your running configuration to a network Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) server.
Resolved Caveats
FLUSH Response
The LAN emulation (LANE) client configured on the ATM modules responds to a LANE flush request by sending an incomplete flush response. The Cisco LAN emulation client (LEC) implementation accepts the flush response. However, this response might cause problems with LANE implementations from other vendors.
CRC Error
If you send excessive multicast traffic from the ATM module to Ethernet ports while Inter-Switch Link (ISL) trunking is enabled on the ATM module, the Ethernet ports might generate cyclic redundancy check (CRC) errors. To work around this problem, do one of the following:
•
Turn off the ISL trunking feature.
•
Do not send excessive multicast frames.

Cisco Connection Online
Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.
CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
You can access CCO in the following ways:
