This document describes the caveats and limitations for Cisco MDS 9000 Family Fabric Manager release 2.1(2c). Use this document in conjunction with documents listed in the "Related Documentation" section.
Note Cisco Fabric Manager 2.1(2c) works in conjunction with all Cisco MDS SAN-OS releases up to and including Release 2.1(2b). All release notes may have been updated with new information on restrictions and caveats. The Cisco Fabric Manager provides an alternative to the command-line interface (CLI) for most switch configuration commands. Fabric Manager provides powerful Fibre Channel troubleshooting tools. These in-depth health and configuration analysis capabilities leverage unique MDS 9000 switch capabilities: Fibre Channel Ping and Traceroute.
The Cisco Fabric Manager includes these management applications:
•Fabric Manager (client and server)
•Fabric Manager Web Services
For information on using the CLI to configure a Cisco MDS 9000 Family switch, refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 Family CLI Configuration Guide or the Cisco MDS 9020 Switch Configuration Guide and Command Reference.
Upgrading Your Version of Cisco Fabric Manager
To upgrade your version of Cisco Fabric Manager,or install Fabric Manager for the first time, follow these steps:
Step 1 Download the latest Fabric Manager .jar file from the Software Center on Cisco.com (http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/mds-fm). You must have a CCO account to access the files on Software Center.
Note You must have Java 1.4.2 or higher installed before you can install Cisco Fabric Manager.
Step 2 Launch the Fabric Manager installation program by doing one of the following:
a. Navigate to the folder where you have downloaded the file and double click it.
b. Open the file using Internet Explorer.
c. Enter java -jar <filename> on the Windows or UNIX command line.
Step 3 Select an installation folder for Fabric Manager on your workstation. The default location is C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\MDS 9000 for Windows. On a Solaris or Linux machine, the installation path name is /usr/local/cisco_mds9000 or $HOME/cisco_mds9000, depending on the permissions of the user performing the installation.
Note The Fabric Manager Server and the Fabric Manager Client must be able to communicate with each other at all times. They can be installed on different workstations or the same workstation.
Step 4 Check the Use Global Device Aliases in place of the FC Aliases check box if you want to use global device aliases or replace existing per VSAN FC aliases with global device aliases.
Step 5 Check the Don't install and run FM Server check box if you are installing just the Fabric Manager Client on a remote workstation.

Limitations and Restrictions
There are no limitations or restrictions for this release.
This section lists the open and resolved caveats for this release. Use Table 2 to determine the status of a particular caveat and which Fabric Manager release the bug was resolved and open.

Symptom: If port 9001 is in use by another process, the database update for the previous release tables and data might hang.
Workaround: Edit the server.properties file in the bin directory and use another port. Alternatively, remove the process that opened port 9001.
Symptom: The user password for SNMP and CLI do not sync correctly when the user is created through the AAA server.
Workaround: Ensure that the AAA server has the user password configured and that the password is at least eight characters long.
Symptom: Logging in through RADIUS using Fabric Manager fails when SSH is enabled on a Cisco MDS 9000 switch.
Symptom: The Device Alias state is not persistent. Checking the Device Alias check box and applying the change correctly lists the Device Alias in the end devices table. However, after logging out of Fabric Manager and restarting it, Fabric Manager reverts and shows Device Alias as unchecked.
Workaround: When opening a fabric, make sure to select the Accelerate Discovery option in the open dialog box so that the saved value is restored.
Symptom: If a user does not have a Fabric Manager Server (FMS) license, a demo or trial license counter for enhanced FMS features starts even when FMS enhanced features are not configured . You might see the following message:%LICMGR-3-LOG_LIC_NO_LIC: No license(s) present for feature FM_SERVER_PKG. Application(s) shutdown in 119 days.
This might occur after upgrading to Cisco SAN-OS 2.1(2x). FMS status becomes InUsed although none of its features were or are actually used. This starts the 120 day evaluation period counter for FMS enhanced features.
Note This does not have any impact on using the FM/DM for managing the switch for basic feature operations.
Workaround: Install an FMS license.

Note Use the Cisco Product Identification (CPI) tool to locate your product serial number before submitting a web or phone request for service. You can access the CPI tool from the Cisco Technical Support & Documentation website by clicking the Tools & Resources link under Documentation & Tools. Choose Cisco Product Identification Tool from the Alphabetical Index drop-down list, or click the Cisco Product Identification Tool link under Alerts & RMAs. The CPI tool offers three search options: by product ID or model name; by tree view; or for certain products, by copying and pasting show command output. Search results show an illustration of your product with the serial number label location highlighted. Locate the serial number label on your product and record the information before placing a service call.
Submitting a Service Request
Using the online TAC Service Request Tool is the fastest way to open S3 and S4 service requests. (S3 and S4 service requests are those in which your network is minimally impaired or for which you require product information.) After you describe your situation, the TAC Service Request Tool provides recommended solutions. If your issue is not resolved using the recommended resources, your service request is assigned to a Cisco engineer. The TAC Service Request Tool is located at this URL:
For S1 or S2 service requests or if you do not have Internet access, contact the Cisco TAC by telephone. (S1 or S2 service requests are those in which your production network is down or severely degraded.) Definitions of Service Request Severity
To ensure that all service requests are reported in a standard format, Cisco has established severity definitions.
Severity 1 (S1)—Your network is "down," or there is a critical impact to your business operations. You and Cisco will commit all necessary resources around the clock to resolve the situation.
Severity 2 (S2)—Operation of an existing network is severely degraded, or significant aspects of your business operation are negatively affected by inadequate performance of Cisco products. You and Cisco will commit full-time resources during normal business hours to resolve the situation.
Severity 3 (S3)—Operational performance of your network is impaired, but most business operations remain functional. You and Cisco will commit resources during normal business hours to restore service to satisfactory levels.
Severity 4 (S4)—You require information or assistance with Cisco product capabilities, installation, or configuration. There is little or no effect on your business operations.
