Advanced User Interface Design Features
Beginning with Management Center for IPS Sensors (IPS MC) version 2.0, several advanced user interface features became available. These advanced features have two purposes:
•
To provide real-time status information for all background tasks. The Progress Viewer provides real-time status information for configuration deployment and all other background tasks. The Progress Viewer is represented by an icon on every page of the IPS MC.
•
To make the user interface easier to use. For example, if you are generating a report in the background, you can continue working on other tasks with the knowledge that the Report Ready icon will appear when the report has been completed. Clicking the Report Ready icon forwards you to the Reports tab.
Action and Notification Icons in the Path Bar
The Path Bar has action and notification icons. They are right-justified on the Path bar.
•
Generate and Deploy—Clicking this icon saves all pending configuration changes, determines which sensors need to have new configurations generated, and then deploys configurations to the devices.
•
Quick Save—Clicking this icon saves all pending configuration object changes for the user who is logged in. The tool tip for this icon lists the pending configuration objects.
•
Quick Undo—Clicking this icon discards all pending configuration object changes for the user who is logged in. The tool tip for this icon lists the pending configuration objects.
•
Progress Viewer--successfully completed tasks—Clicking this icon opens the Progress Viewer in a modeless window. The blue-colored field in the Progress Viewer means that all tasks have completed with no errors.
•
Progress Viewer--failed tasks—Clicking this icon opens the Progress Viewer in a modeless window. The tool tip for this icon lists the names of the tasks that have failed.
•
Progress Viewer--tasks that are still in progress—Clicking this icon opens the Progress Viewer in a modeless window. The tool tip for this icon lists the name, type, and percentage of completion of the tasks that are running in the background.
Note
Only one Progress Viewer icon is present at a time. If tasks are still in progress, that is the icon displayed. Otherwise either the successfully completed tasks icon (if all tasks have completed successfully) or the failed tasks icon (if any tasks have failed) is shown.
•
Signature Update Available—Clicking this icon forwards you to the Automatic Signature Download page. If IPS MC is not configured to download signature update files automatically, the tool tip for this icon displays the following message: "Click to configure automatic download of signature updates." Clicking the icon in this instance forwards you to the appropriate configuration page. After you have enabled Automatic Signature Download, the tool tip for this icon lists the date and time of download and the last time that IPS MC checked for a new signature update.
Tip
This icon is always present.
•
Report Ready—Clicking this icon forwards you to the Reports tab. When this icon appears it signals a previously generated report is complete.
•
File Monitor Alarm—Indicates that the file monitor process has detected a file that exceeds the size warning criteria. For more information on file size configuration, see File Management Configuration, page 10-9.
Device Icons in the Object Selector
The Object Selector uses the following icons to indicate the version and type of each device. The icons indicate the type of device, such as Cisco Intrusion Prevention System 5.x or IOS IPS. For a 5.x device, they also indicate when you need to reboot. Icons also indicate the status of the Sensor Health and Welfare daemon.
