Managing Software Files


AUS enables you to manage six types of files: PIX security appliance software images, ASA software images, PDM images, ASDM images, ASA configuration files, and PIX security appliance configuration files.

You can add PIX security appliance software images, ASA software images, ASDM images, and PDM images, view PIX security appliance and ASA configuration files, and delete all six types of files.

ASA devices must be bootstrapped with the asdm image and boot system commands to manage ASDM and ASA software images using AUS. For more information, see Configuring the Software Image and ASDM Image to Boot, page D-4.

Viewing the File Summary Page

Click the Files tab to display the File Summary page, which displays information about files in the AUS database. From this page, you can add and delete files, and view configuration files.

To view information in the File Summary table, click a column name to sort the table by column information. For a description of elements in the File Summary page, see Table 4-1.

Image list

Shows the type of software image.

Select the software image type from the list to filter the table according to the software image type.

Search field

Enables you to enter the name of the image for which you want to search.

Go button

Begins a search for the information in the search field.

Check box

Selects the image to delete or the configuration file to view. You can select one or more check boxes if you want to delete multiple configuration files.

Name column

Shows the name of the file.

Click a filename to display a table of information about the image and the devices assigned to. The table is displayed in a new window.

Type column

Shows the type of file.

Version column

Shows the version of file.

Create Timestamp column

Shows the time that the file was added to AUS.

No. of References column

Shows the number of devices assigned to the file.

Rows per page list

Specifies the number of rows per page displayed.


Adding Software Images

From the Files Summary page, you can add PIX security appliance software images, ASA software images, ASDM images, and PDM images.


Note You cannot add configuration files from AUS. You must use Security Manager to do so. See the User Guide for Cisco Security Manager 3.2 for details.


This procedure describes how to add images to AUS.


Step 1 Select Files. The Files Summary page appears.

Step 2 Click Add. The Add File page appears (Table 4-2).

Step 3 Enter information in the fields.

Step 4 Click OK to add the software image. Click Cancel to exit the page without making any changes.

Description

File Type list

Shows the type of software image from which to make your selection. Image type can be PIX, PDM, ASDM, or ASA.

Note From the list, select pix-image if you are adding an ASA software image.

Filename field

Enables you to enter the name of the image you want to add.

Browse button

Searches on your local hard drive for a software image that you want to add.

Note In Netscape 4.7x, the default file type in the browse window is HTML. You must change the file type to *.* to display PIX and PDM image files.


Deleting Software Files

From the Files Summary page, you can delete PIX security appliance software images, ASA software images, PDM images, ASDM images, ASA configuration files, and PIX security appliance configuration files.


Caution Deleting an image or configuration file that is assigned to multiple devices deletes all references between the file and the devices.

This procedure describes how to delete an image or a configuration file from AUS.


Step 1 Select Files. The Files Summary page appears.

Step 2 Select the check box for the software image or configuration file to delete. You can select multiple check boxes to delete multiple files.

Step 3 Click Delete. A warning appears.

Step 4 To delete the image, click OK. To exit the page without making any changes, click Cancel.


Viewing Configuration Files

From the Files Summary page, you can display selected PIX and ASA configuration files.

This procedure describes how to add images to AUS view a configuration file.


Step 1 Select Files. The Files Summary page appears.

Step 2 Select the check box for the configuration file to view. Do not select more than one check box. You can select only one file at a time to view.

Step 3 Click View. The configuration file is displayed in a separate window.

Step 4 After you view the configuration file, click Close.
