These release notes describe important information for Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager, Release 5.3.11.

Release 5.3.11 is a minor release of Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager containing new features and updates. Users of a previous release(s) should check System Requirements for compatibility information and instructions on how to use existing data with this new release.

Users of a previous release(s) of either Cisco Stream Manager or ClearClient are encouraged to upgrade. See Installation Notes for more information.

Introduction
The Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager application is a collection of discrete software modules. Release 5.3.11, includes the following modules:
•
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Configuration Module
Used to identify and program Cisco Video Surveillance IP Gateway encoders, decoders, and storage devices. The Stream Manager Upgrade Module is included in the Configuration Module and is used to upgrade firmware on Cisco Video Surveillance Services Platforms, Integrated Services Platforms, and IP Gateway encoders and decoders.•
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Client Viewing Module
Provides access to all system operations, including camera control, stored video review, and alarm notifications. This is the primary PC application for viewing live or stored video from the network.•
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Administration and Monitoring Module
Enables monitoring of network, server use, and dynamic system health, and provides status reporting. An alternative version with the Failover Module also provides failover management.
Tip
To ensure proper operation, do not run the Stream Manager Client Viewing and Stream Manager Configuration modules at the same time. Open only one of these modules at a time for maximum system performance.
In addition, this release includes the following firmware updates.

Installation Notes
•
To install the same or a newer version of a Stream Manager module that already is installed on the computer, you must first uninstall the existing module.
•
When upgrading from a pre-5.x Stream Manager release to Stream Manager release 5.x or later, you must reselect the time zone setting for the time master recorder. Otherwise, a default time zone value is selected. For instructions to reselect the time zone, see "Configuring Device Settings for a Recorder" in the Cisco Video Surveillance System User Guide.
•
For instructions to install or uninstall Cisco Video Surveillance firmware and Stream Manager software, refer to the documents described in Software Documentation.
•
Install the modules one at a time, performing the installation procedure for each module that you want to install.
•
Installation software and firmware is located on the Stream Manager installation disk, or you can download it from the URL described in Software Images and Other Tools.
•
Before you install the Stream Manager software, make sure that the computer on which you are installing meets the minimum hardware requirements. See Desktop PC System Requirements for more information.

Software Filenames and Part Numbers
For Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Release 5.3.11, you must install the software and firmware versions described in this section.
•
Although Stream Manager Release 5.3.x software and firmware is interoperable with previous versions, we highly recommend that all recorders and monitors are upgraded to the latest version of each module and firmware file. See Software Filenames and Part Numbers and Software Images and Other Tools.
•
Verify that the computer on which you are installing meets the minimum hardware requirements, as described in System Requirements.
•
You can install software that you obtain on a Stream Manager installation disk or that you download from the URL described in Software Images and Other Tools.

Additional Windows Vista Compatibility and Settings
Verify that your PC meets the minimum requirements specified in Windows Vista PC System Requirements.
In addition, adjust the following settings on your PC running Microsoft Vista to ensure proper operation of the Cisco Stream Manager modules:
Network Connectivity
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager does not support IPv6. If the selected network card does not connect to the Cisco Video Surveillance network on a PC running Windows Vista, verify that IPv6 setting is disabled. Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Manage Network Connections -> Local Area Connection -> Properties and deselect Internal Protocol Version 6 (TCIP/IPv6).
Synchronizing the System Clock
To ensure the system clock synchronizes with the system, disable the Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC). To disable this setting, go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and Family Safety -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control on or off.
Cisco Video Surveillance Software and Firmware Compatibility
Stream Manager Release 5.3.x software and firmware is interoperable with previous versions, but we highly recommend that all recorders and monitors are upgraded to the latest version of each module and firmware file.

Resolved Defects
Cisco Stream Manager release 5.3.11 resolves a number of issues, as described in Resolved Caveats.
Updated Software and Firmware
To upgrade to release 5.3.11, install the updated release 5.3.11 software. See Software Filenames and Part Numbers and Obtaining Documentation, Software, and Related Information for more information.
XVCR File System Check Maintenance Utility
The Cisco Stream Manager Monitor application includes a system Maintenance utility used to check and repair the file systems on XVCR recorders. The maintenance process resolves numerous system errors and alarms that occur over time if the file system is not checked and maintained on a regular basis.
Because the maintenance operation results in recorder downtime and can take 3 to 5 hours for each recorder the first time it is run, you must manually run the procedure when the impact is low.
Note
The maintenance operation causes each recorder to go offline and failover until the system file check is complete. Since this process can last 3 or more hours, significant downtime can occur.
Review the following recommendations before performing the maintenance file system check:
•
Run the operation in small batches of 5 to 10 recorders, then repeat this process for the next 5 to 10 recorders. Recorders are updated one at a time, as described in the following procedure.
•
Run the procedure every six months on every recorder to avoid system errors.
•
When a recorder goes offline, a failover occurs. Do not exceed the number of failover-ports available on the system.
•
Run the procedure at a time when reviews are not being done on the impacted recorder. The recorder is not available during the maintenance operation.
–
The recorded view is not available while the XVCR is offline and in failover. Only the live view is available during the maintenance procedure.
–
When the recorder comes back online, both live and recorder views are available. Previous recorded video is also available after the recorder is back online.
To run the Maintenance utility for one or more XVCRs, do the following:
Procedure
Step 1
On the workstation running the Stream Manager Monitor module, select Maintenance from the Tools menu.
The Recorder Maintenance window appears and displays all the XVCRs discovered in the system, as shown in Figure 1-1.

Step 2
In the Recorder Maintenance window, check the XVCRs that you want to run the file system check.
Tip
Because the maintenance operation can take 3 to 5 hours to complete the first time it is run on a recorder, we strongly recommend running the operation on small groups of recorders at a time. For example, run the operation on 5 to 10 recorders, then repeat this process for the next 5 to 10 recorders.
Step 3
Click the Start button.
Step 4
In the confirmation window (Figure 1-2), click Yes to begin the maintenance process.

If you click Yes, the following occurs:
–
Maintenance is performed on one XVCR at a time.
–
Recorders are offline during the file system check, causing a failover.
–
Maintenance is run on each recorder only when the file system check is complete on the previous recorder, and it comes back online and is re-discovered by the system.
Note
The maintenance operation for each recorder can take several hours. The recorder will be offline during this time.
•
Click No or Cancel to cancel the operation.
Step 5
Monitor the status in the Recorder Maintenance window, as shown in Figure 1-3.

Repeat these steps for additional recorders, if necessary.

Storage Platform Health Monitoring
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Monitor monitors the status of the video surveillance network and devices. Storage Platform Health Monitoring provides additional, proactive system monitoring for temperature, fan speed, voltages, and memory usage. Visual alerts, actions, and emails can be sent to warn the administrator before problems occur. Storage Platform Health Monitoring increases the overall system reliability.
Database Backup and Restore
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager uses a database to maintain the user rights and privileges information. Database backup and restore to a PC provides an additional level of security and reliability to the system.
Dual Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) Support
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager allows two Ethernet network interface cards (NICs) in the PC that runs the applications. Dual NIC support lets you select the network card used with the Stream Manager network.
Satellite Matrix Switch Support for American Dynamics (AD) 1024
The AD 1024 Matrix Switch allows a "satellite" or remote configuration. Cameras are selected using the site number, then the camera number. Support is added to interoperate with the satellite configuration.
Support for the AD 3200 Matrix Switch
Support has been added for the AD 3200 Matrix Switch. Stream Manager can now interoperate with the AD 3200 with the same capabilities as the AD 1024, including satellite configuration.
AD CC1100 Keyboard Support
Support is added for the AD CC1100 Keyboard in hybrid mode. The AD CC1100 interoperates with both the AD 1024 and AD 3200 Matrix Switches in hybrid mode.
Panasonic WV-CU950 Keyboard Support
Panasonic produces a true Ethernet-based keyboard. Support is added so that Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Decoders can interoperate with the Panasonic WV-CU950 Keyboard.
H.264 Encoding/Decoding
H.264 encoding and decoding support has been added to Cisco Video Surveillance IP Gateways. H.264 is a compression mechanism that provides similar quality video to MPEG-4, but with lower bit rates, reducing both network traffic and storage requirements. IP Gateway Encoders are required for H.264 support. The CIVS-SG1B-ECMD-C16=, and CIVS-SG1B-ECOD-FE encoders support H.264. The CIVS-SG1B-DCMD-C16=, CIVS-SG1B-DCOD-FE, CIVS-SG1A-DCMD-C16=, and CIVS-SG1A-DCOD-FE decoders all support H.264.
Serial Pass-Through
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager IP Gateways have two serial ports. Serial pass-through allows serial data to be sent transparently through one of the serial ports without requiring Stream Manager to understand or translate the data. This feature is desirable to interoperate with other devices, particularly pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) cameras controlled from Cisco Video Surveillance Manager.
Support for Microsoft Vista Business
Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager applications run on Windows-based PCs. Support for Microsoft Vista OS, Business Edition is added in Cisco Stream Manager Release 5.3.11. See Desktop PC System Requirements for more information.
Support for Pelco Spectra IV Camera
Cisco Stream Manager Release 5.3.11 supports the Pelco Spectra IV camera.
To ensure proper operation, the Spectra IV bidirectional dip switch must be set to OFF (the dip switch is set to ON by default). If the bidirectional dip switch is not set to OFF, the Spectra IV may not recognize all PTZ commands and continue paning, tilting, or zooming.
Support for Pelco Spectra III Camera
To ensure proper operation, Pelco Spectra III cameras attached to Cisco IP Gateway encoder Rev8, Rev B, or higher, should not be configured for a 2400 baud rate. If upgrading from a Rev6 encoder to a Rev8 encoder, verify that the baud rate for both the Spectra III and the Cisco encoder are configured greater than 2400 baud.
Caveats

You can search for problems by using the Cisco Software Bug Toolkit. To access the Bug Toolkit, you need the following items:

Step 1
To access the Bug Toolkit, go to http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs.
Step 2
Log on with your Cisco.com user ID and password.
Step 3
To look for information about a specific problem, enter the bug ID number in the "Search for bug ID" field, then click Go.
Step 4
To look for information if you do not know the bug ID number:
a.
Select "Security" from the "Select Product Category" menu.
b.
Select "Cisco Video Surveillance Stream Manager Software" from the "Select Product" menu.
c.
Select the version number from the "Software Version" menu.
d.
Under Advanced Options, select "Use default settings" or "Use custom settings". The default settings search for severity 1, 2 and 3 bugs, open and fixed bugs, and bugs containing bug details. Use the custom settings to change the severity and status parameters, or to search for keywords within the bug headline and description.
